Many people judge other people by their appearances. They may give good complements to the individual or a group of people. Everyone is meant to be equal in many ways. In the old testament in Leviticus 19:15-16 it describes how people should not see one person being superior to another but should be fair to one another. The passage also talks about how people should not make false judgment about others. A person being rich is superior than the poor but the rich should give to the poor. I choose this passage because many people think being rich people can surpass others when it could lead to bad conflicts for that individual . Another reason choose this passage is it reflects on people today and they make false statement about others when they do not know anything about them and how the wealthy men or women do not help the poor. My third reason I choose this passage is because the verses relates to my experiences that I see throughout my life. However there are questions about Leviticus 19:15 that got me curious about the passage. Why do people say negative comments to the poor when god give them gifts like everyone else? If Leviticus talks about treating your neighbor fair why can most people do that today? Is the passage consider to be a sin if everyone do not treat their neighbors fairly? Would God punish us if the rich do not help the poor when they need? Another question that I am concern in Leviticus chapter nineteen verse sixteen is why do people judge others by their skin color and their appearances when people do not know anything about them? If the passage talks about not making slanders their people does that mean they are breaking the ten commandments and sinning at the same time? The writer of Leviticus including the verses varies in several situations. Leviticus was one of the first five books of the Bible known as the Pentateuch and many scholars argue how Moses wrote them. Moses died at the end of the last book of the Pentateuch. There could be possibilities that Moses understood the five books. The scholars negotiate how Leviticus was found by two sources known as the Holiness and Priestly but were not sure which one was determine (Schifferdecker,Kathryn). However Moses may be one of the authors of Leviticus. Leviticus 19:15-16 has a significant historical background. This verse took place in Moses time when God gave him the ten commandments and other rules to delivered to the people. This passage describes one of the laws that Moses had to delivered the message to the Israelites for God. The passage demonstrates how people should respects and do not make false judgments to neighbors and other individuals for God. Anyone who does not obey one of the laws in Leviticus 19:15-16 is committing sin and it is dishonoring God. Those who do not follow the law from the passage is also breaking one of ten commandments which states thou shalt not bear false witnesses against thy neighbors( pg 1049 Encyclopedia Biblica, Cheyne and Black). In Leviticus verse 16 God commanded Moses to tell the Israelites not to make false statements to other individuals including neighbors. The ninth commandment states that no one should not make false witness to the neighbors. Therefore, anyone who does not follow the passage for Leviticus 19:15-16 is not only breaking one of the commandments but is also committing sin. Leviticus 19: 15-16 passage also relates to all people’s problems in today’s society. Many individuals judge people by their appearances and giving negative comments that can be false. However there are several reasons why people make insults and tell lies about others. An individual could either been through a hard situation or be hurt by someone else and try to do the same act to other people. Also, when a person is making bad comments to others, they think it will make them feel better but instead its making feel sad. Making slanders about towards others is a can make a bad influence to individuals. Another reason why people in today society make negative remarks and judge others is because they think they are confident about that person base on experience. A bully usually picks on someone who is smaller than him or her. Bullies pick on students that are small in size because they can take advantage over them base on. However, if the bully continues to make bad remarks to other people who are smaller than him or her, then he or she will could get hurt as well. People who judge others base on their experience will regret it in the future.
