The Sin of Distraction

Can a simple distraction become sin?

Dumb question, but have you ever wondered why God told Abraham to leave his country, his kindred, and even his fathers’ house? Wouldn’t he have been a great witness to all those around him? Wouldn’t Gods glory been magnified throughout the whole region through what was going to happen? Probably. Maybe so. But God recognized one thing that we some times overlook, distractions.

There really wasn’t a problem with where he was at, or who he was around. But God knew that He couldn’t talk to Abraham about his covenant, and his blessings, with everyone else around. So he had to get him away from everything, and every body. He had too get him away from…distractions. He had to bring him to a place of solitude. A place of quite.

The writer of the book of Hebrews tells us to,” lay aside every weight, and the sin that so easily besets us,.” So there is “weight”, and there is “the sin”. Question. Is there a place where God can talk to you about His plans and blessings for your life? Do you have a place where you can let go of the “weight” and just listen to Him?

It is well worth the effort to have a place where we can escape from the routine of our hectic lives and just listen to Him. A time with no distractions. Tough. But doable.
