The Truth: The Book of First Timothy

The Book of First Timothy layouts sound guidelines in the selection of church teachers, pastors, bishops and deacons as instructed by the Holy Spirit of God. Other things that the Book of First Timothy teaches include warnings of some people departing from the faith and given in to fables of men and false doctrines of devils. Also, it teaches a bit of prophecy concerning the last days, just before the appearing of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Book of First Timothy written by the hand of the Apostle Paul and according to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God wrote this letter to Timothy his son in the faith in approximately AD 63. In this letter, Paul the Apostle instructs Timothy to teach the doctrine of Christ Jesus and to avoid teaching any other, and to also instruct the others that is in his charge to teach only the doctrine of Jesus Christ and to avoid mixing in the false doctrines of men and is not the same doctrine that the Living GOD delivered into this world.

In the Book of First Timothy, Paul the Apostle also makes the guidelines of selecting Teachers, pastors, bishops and deacons of the church and how these church leaders are to live their lives, raise their families, lead their church congregations and behave themselves whether it be in public or in private. By inspiration of the Holy Spirit the Apostle Paul instructs Timothy how to go about selecting good, God-fearing leaders to teach the sound doctrine of Jesus Christ and to also be doers of the teachings of the doctrine of Christ Jesus in by the way that they live life.

There is so many things that a believer in Jesus Christ can learn from the Book of First Timothy that there isn’t enough bandwidth to contain all of the pages that would be needed to teach all the things that can be learned. Just saying…no pleading to anyone out there reading this right now, please give your soul a chance to live eternally with the Living GOD by trusting in Jesus Christ and read the Book of First Timothy and learn the truth that can save your soul from an eternity in Hell and the Lake of Fire.

In closing, the Book of First Timothy beginning in chapter 4 and picking up again in chapter 6 serves as a warning to all believers in Jesus Christ of the things that are to come in the latter times (last days). If read carefully and taken seriously as the words spoken in all of scripture is breathed out of the mouth of GOD the Father and should be taken quite seriously and literally, then we learn that we are indeed today living in the latter times that GOD warned us about from the beginning.

Here is just several passages from the Book of First Timothy that signal the things to come in the latter times:

1 Timothy 4:1-5

4 “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.”

1 Timothy 6:1-6

6 “Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.

2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.

3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.”

One last thing that just caught my attention that I would like to share with you, as many of us have heard this following scripture quoted but much of the time never quoted exactly.

1 Timothy 6:10

10 “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

I have personally heard others quote “Money is the root of all evil”, but what GOD teaches is that “For the love of money is the root of all evil”. Money itself is just another tool that we have to use to get things done or buy things that we need and as long as we use our money in a way that is not intended to hurt others, then there isn’t anything evil about having money, even a lot of money. However, if money is placed at the center of a man’s heart and has become an object to have at all costs then that man has made money a object of worship and a thing to serve…this is evil and will lead to destruction and perdition.

Now, let me share with you the same scripture that I have already shared up above, but now in even greater context.

1 Timothy 6:9-10

9 “But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

1 Timothy 6:17

17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

    Thanks, James for a wonderful post! This has to be my favorite scripture, because it gives us such a clear picture of what’s going on in the world today. We must be about our heavenly Father’s work! God Bless,
    Your sister in Christ,

    I tried to comment last night, but it wouldn’t let me. I want to say thank you for reminding us Paul’s words are as pertinent today as back then.
