The Truth: The Book of Philemon

The Book of Philemon is a letter written to Philemon by the Apostle Paul to make a plea of the sake of Onesimus to Philemon to encourage him to give his former servant Onesimus another chance to minister to his needs in Christ Jesus. The Apostle begs mercy for a runaway slave who converted to Christianity in his letter to Philemon.

The Book of Philemon was recorded in writing around AD 63, when the Apostle Paul was imprisoned in Rome.

The Book of Philemon is actually a letter that the Apostle Paul had written to Philemon on the behalf of a former servant who had once served Philemon out of necessity and who did not serve Philemon well before he (Onesimus) had left the service of Philemon. At some point Onesimus met the Apostle Paul and eventually entered into a faithful personal relationship in the Lord Jesus Christ and as Paul continues to plea to Philemon that Onesimus is no longer the former person that he was but now a fellow laborer in ministering to the needs of Paul and other fellow laborers in accordance to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And, that if Philemon would have Onesimus back then Onesimus who once had been an unprofitable servant, now would be a faithful minister to the needs of Philemon and to the other fellow laborers that fellowships and labors by his side.

The Apostle Paul went the extra mile in his plea by offering to pay anything that Onesimus owed Philemon the next time Paul visited Philemon. Paul the Apostle not only gave his word by his word but also put his oath into writing to serve as a record of his promise.

In this letter written by the hand of the Apostle Paul pleading with his fellow laborer and his brother in the Spirit of Jesus Christ demonstrates the importance for brothers and sisters in the Body of Jesus Christ and led by the Spirit of GOD to forgive one another for whatever we have done to offend another brother or sister in the Body of Jesus Christ, which is the True Church and Christ being the Head of the Body and the High Priest.

It does us no good to hold a grudge against another especially since we are members of the same Body of Jesus Christ. For a body to work properly all of the members must be working together for the same cause and work together as one with all members being of the same Mind and Body. In the Body of Jesus Christ, Christ is the Head and in the head the mind is located. This mind that we believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are to be partakers of, is not the mind of the flesh which we all currently dwell in while here in this world, but the Mind of the Spirit, which is from GOD above. We are to do as GOD teaches us to do through his Word – The WORD OF GOD.

It is unfruitful for a man to live by the reason of the mind of the flesh, because it is the mind of a man; a man possessing a fallen nature, but if a man should put his trust in the LORD GOD Jesus Christ then GOD will make the man to understand the things of GOD with the help of the Holy Spirit. In order for a mere moral man to understand what is the Will of GOD – then man must turn their attention not to other men for the answers or to themselves, but turn their attention to THE WORD Of GOD (as recorded in the Holy Bible) and in it man will be taught by the Holy Spirit the things of GOD and man will learn what the Will of GOD is for them and for us all.

The Book of Philemon although only consisting of one chapter continues to build on the foundation of forgiveness and forgiving one another. It also teaches us to go up to bat for one another especially if we witness a good change in one of our brothers or sisters who once went astray from the fellowship and teachings of our Heavenly Father’s Will for our lives, and then later returned into faithful fellowship in the Body of Jesus Christ and is now ministering a good ministry to those that they come in contact with. As brothers and sisters we are to forgive and not hold pass deeds over one another’s heads, but to forgive and wipe the slate clean and mature together ministering The WORD OF GOD to one another and let it not be in words only but also by how we live our lives toward one another and to those also who have not believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

By the way which we treat each other and how we treat others, by this the LORD GOD will be better able to work in us and through us to reach the lost of this world and bring them into fellowship with Him through His only begotten Son Jesus Christ. Remember our Lord Jesus Christ bought us out of the bondage of sin by the shedding of his Precious Blood on the Cross and Jesus Paid our Sin Debt in Full, therefore we who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ no longer belong to ourselves but we belong to HIM. It brings great tidings and joy to those that the Lord Jesus Christ works in and through to lead the lost souls of this world into the Saving Grace and Light (the Truth) of the Lord Jesus Christ (who is GOD manifested in the Flesh and who also is THE WORD OF GOD) in Whom (the Lord Jesus Christ) we where given our Salvation and Eternal Life.

The book of Philemon sort of enhances the Our Father. “Forgive us our debts.”

I’m impressed with your knowledge of the Bible and thankful for your God given knowledge of His Living Word. The Bible is different than any other book, because knowledge learned from the Bible is Spiritually discerned. God Bless you in your living and writing for our Master and Savior…Jesus Christ.
