I heard this true story of a woman who had a boa snake for a pet . She only had to feed the snake about once a month. She noticed for the passed couple of month the snake did not want to eat and always wanted to sleep not curled up but always stretched out on the ground or on her bed. The owner of that snake got concerned why the snake was not eating and acting so peculiar. The next morning she called her vet to see why her snake is acting this way wondering if the snake might be sick. She called the vet and told her what was going on. The vet said to the lady put your snake in her cage and call me right back . The woman did as the vet had instructed her to do and called her back. When she got on the phone with the vet this time the vet told the lady, I didn’t want to tell you before you put the snake up because snakes can sense your fears, but your snake is not sick. The reason it is acting this way is because what the snake is actually doing is sizing you up. Wow, what a story! I was amazed when I heard this. Later that day I thought how this is a lot like what the devil does. He is always trying to size us up to see how he can cause us to fail. We have to know that we have an enemy the devil.
It reminded me of the scripture when Jesus asked ” what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” The devil will size you up to see what will you take in exchange for your soul.

The Bible tells us he comes to steal kill and destroy. He wants us to turn our backs on Jesus Christ. Our faith in Jesus Christ should not be based on our feelings or an idea but true relationship with our Lord. Loving Him for what He has done on the cross for our sins. The devil will always try to devour your faith but you must stand strong. How do we stand strong?
- We have to know the Word of God. Know what you believe and why you believe it.
- Have a testimony. Make it real to you. Don’t just know what Jesus Christ has done in the lives of others but know what He has done in you.
- Love people and walk in Love. Refuse to hate or live a life of bitterness. That is one way Satan can defeat a Christian. Cause them to be bitter. Bitterness will defeat you every time. We must walk in love and not allow the roots of bitterness to grow in our hearts.

This story is true. It could be that there was a legend that was similar. Legends could still happen to other people. Legends are not impossible. However , I think the author wanted you to learn something from this story.
No, the story is not true. Snakes do no not “size up” their food. Any quick study of the dietary habits of snakes will tell you this is a water cooler shock story.
Think about it. If a snake “measured” its prey before eating it, it would starve, because the prey would escape.

I hate snakes. I would never have one for a pet. I am however an animal lover and would never hurt a snake but I would prefer to let snakes be owned by people who are experience dealing with them.
