Today’s Bible Reading – Isaiah 25-26

"O Lord, thou art my God: I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth…For thou hast been a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall…And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the Lord; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation." — Isaiah 25:1,4,9.

Here is another passage about injustice, but this time from the perspective of the best way to conduct ourselves when having to endure it — that we are to run to God and not only trust Him with it, but also tell everyone around us that we are trusting Him with it, so that He will get glory when His deliverance comes, and more people will choose to seek and trust Him also from seeing all the great things He has done for us.

Essentially, all injustice stems from some instance of idolatry, the putting of something else above the fear of God, to the point of becoming willing to or careless about hurting others to continue pursuing it. And in addition to His qualities as a compassionate, loving protector for our sakes, He does not tolerate competition. He may ask us to endure difficult situations for a time for His own purposes on occasion, but we can be assured that if we maintain our faith, He will deliver us for His own name’s sake as well as ours. So while suffering injustice is always unpleasant, at the same time it is also a great opportunity to see the power of God working for you firsthand to strengthen your faith and to move others with your testimony.

“Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 5:10

But while we can in faith see such circumstances as being an opportunity for blessing, that doesn’t mean we have to be happy about the injustice itself. In this place in Isaiah, although such confident proclamations are made believing whole-heartedly in the Lord’s salvation, at the same time the people are still taking their troubles to Him for comfort and strengthening as they should, because for all the power of the Lord to deal with their enemies for them, they are still frail and fallen mankind and in need of daily sustenance from Him to keep themselves firmly rooted in Him in their distress.

“Yea, in the way of thy judgements, O Lord, have we waited for thee; the desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the rememberance of thee. With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgements are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.” — Isaiah 26:8-9

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” — Isaiah 26:3

In addition to having many encouraging verses here, this passage makes a good practical example of how to translate our faith into specific God-pleasing action. It is perfectly right and acceptable to bring our complaints and lamentations to the Lord about the things that we are going through, but at the same time hold fast to your confidence that He genuinely cares and is moving on your behalf, and let others see your confidence, too, so that when His judgement is accomplished, it will bring the greatest glory and good out of the situation.
