One of the most baffling mysteries known to man has always been religions and whether items described in holy scripts actually exist and if they do whether they have special powers.  I have compiled a list here of the most mysterious items found in the christian religion throughout the world.  The list below is in no certain order.  All photos are courtesy of Wikipedia and Encyclopedia Britannica.

1.  Ark of the Covenant

Supposed to contain the 10 commandments received by Moses from God.  Ark is supposed to contain “god like powers” and current location is uncertain.  Ark is made of gold with two Cherubs (angels) on the lid.

2.  Noah’s Ark

Ship made by Noah and his family to escape the great flood.  Story tells of Noah taking two members of every species of animal (a male and female) to repopulate Earth once flood recedes.  Some people believe that Ark could still be found on Mt Ararat in Turkey today.

3.  Codex Gigas or the Devil’s Bible

Believed to have been written by one monk in the early 13th century and is rumored to have taken over 20 years to complete.  Book contains over 320 large sheets and has the Latin version of the Bible, some encyclopedias, a list of monks, magical spells, and some tellings of history and physiology to name just a few of its contents.  The book got it’s name of the Devil’s Bible because of one illustration depicting a demon.  This is pictured below.

4.  Virgin Mary Statue in Sacramento, California that Cries Blood

First reported on in 2005 this statue has drawn world renown attention and seems to show the statue shedding red tears (what looks like blood) from both eyes at times but mostly concentrated on the left side of the face.  Believers that think this is a miracle claim that this is a warning that there is too much bloodshed in the world today.

5.  Shroud of Turin

Could this actually be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ?  Recent carbon dating have revealed that the shroud was created sometime in the 13th century but true believers say that since the shroud was exposed to a fire previously that this could contaminate these tests and make the item appear younger than it really is.  What is certain about the item is that it depicts a bearded man with what appears to be crucifiction marks on both hands and feet matching Jesus’s hanging on the cross.  Modern science still has not provided an answer on how the image was even captured on the shroud.

6.  Wood From the True Cross

This is supposed to be the original wood of the cross that Jesus was crucified on.  Many modern churches claim to have small pieces of this wood and it is reported to have healing powers.  All samples are now kept under glass protected enclosures to ensure survival from the elements though.

7.  Other Weeping Statues and Miracle Icons

a.  St. Righteous Anna in Philadelphia weeping Myrrh.

b.  Virgin Mary Painting cries in Romania.

There are numerous other examples of weeping statues and icons rumored to exist throughout the world besides the ones listed above but the ones here are samples of the better ones.  If you liked this list please check out my Most Mysterious Ancient Religious sites coming soon.
