The title for this particular topic came during a conversation me and my husband had concerning what people were pray for. You see because God can very easily shift the focus of your prayers, especially if He feels your prayers are misdirected, even if we don’t know it.
Allow me to get deeper intot eh ‘misdirected’ prayer thing. When I say misdirected prayer, I mean God can shift your prayers around into the right direction just because He knows you are praying too much for the wrong thins(s), understand? Now by the wrong things, I mean if you’re praying too much or too hard for that Lexus or Cadillac or BMW you’ve always wanted and yet don’t seem to be getting any closer to getting it and it seems like God ain’t even trhying to hear you, you may get to thinking: “Well God, what am I doing wrong? I pay my tithes, my offering, be obedient all day, etc., and claim what I know you’ve got for me; yet still I ain’t got it yet! And I’ve been testifying that by this time next year or within six months, that I’m gonna have this or that, etc. and now folks are starting to think I’m just dreaming and I hate to admit it God, but I’m even starting to doubt you!” Aren’t these the things we tell ourselves privately?
But Saints, don’t doubt God. Because that’s exactly what Satan wants you to do. He wants you to give up and forsake the One who never forsakes you. Just ask yourself: Could your prayers be misdirected? Lord, am I praying for the right thing(s)? What have you been praying for? Why are you always praying to God for that BMW or Jag so much?
I have read through the Bible more than once now and if there’s one thing throughout the entire Bible which remains consistent, it is OBEDIENCE. Some may disagree and say no, it’s LOVE, but i beg to differ because if you love God, you’ll obey Him correct? Remember, anyone can say they love God—alot of sinners say they love God, yet do not obey Him. They continue to smoke, drink, abuse drugs, etc., and continually justify their actions by reiterating that “God knows their heart.” Like they’re still gonna get into heaven regardless, you know? Really, we should all know better than this! Remember the Bible tells us we cannot serve both God and mammon–period! There are no ifs, ands or buts in between either!
We’re always saying action speak louder than words, right? So saying you love Him, but no showing Him you love Him by your obedience—how can the love possibly be there? Even with the two (2) greatest commandments given us in the Bible that: “we love God with ALL our hearts, mind and sould and that we love our neighbor as we love ourselves–even though the word ‘love’ is used in both instances, how can we love Him or our neighbor, except by showing it? And how do we show it? By being OBEDIENT! Remember, the good book even tells us that obedience is better than sacrifice, people!
That’s why I’m trying to get you all to see that this may be why prayer for that car or house or baby or spouse or whatever it may be, is not being answered. Have you ever allowed that thought to enter your head? Because your prayers are misdirected! And you need to toask God to help you to re-direct your prayers.
Instead of praying for those material things you’ve always wanted, why not pray for the kingdom of God and His righteousness to prevail upon the earth? Why not pray for the sick and shut in, whether they be in your church or at another? Why not get active in volunteer work and get to know those less fortunate than you are because they are your ‘neighbors’, so your unselfishness may shine through when God sees your heart?
Stop praying for that flat, wide-screen television you’ve been wanting so much and pray instead that someone without a t.v. gets one? Maybe God wants to use you to be the one to give it to them, you ever thought about that? This is way we’ve got to get out of the ‘me’ mentality. Because like the son says: ”It’s not about us; It’s about Jesus!”
And Saints, I could go on and on about a whole other topic about being selfish and self-less, but that is a whole other topic right there! I’ll come back to that another time!
I want to challenge you to first ask yoursleves: Is the rreason your pryaers seems to be unanswered because they are misdirected? And if the answer is yes, then you have already taken the first step in correcting a wrong, by Acknowledgment. You’ve acknowledged to God that you have been misdirecting your prayers. The second step is in your seeking His help in righting this wrong by re-directing your prayers for the right things, not selfish things. I mean, don’t get me wrong. It’s okay to ask God for things you do desire, but remember the Bible tells us that He who made us, already knows our innermost thought snad desires, so we really don’t have to ask Him for anything concerning ourselves. He does know what we really want and we’ve just got to trust Him to privde it and in due season, be it God’s will, we will get it.
And that term: God’s will–there are so many today who don’t get the how crucial that term is: God’s will should be a standard for every word we speak with our mouth. We should always quote in our prayer requests that whatever YOUR will may be God, let it be done; because it is not our will that will prevail, it’s God’s, no matter how bad we want mama’s or daddy’s lives to be prolonged; or how bad we want or think we need something. God’s will shall and will prevail always! And remember, our treasure is supposed to be on heavenly things, not on earthly things, where “moth and rust doth corrupt” right?
Maybe God’s greatest desire is for you to receive your heavenly mansion, not the earthly one—so stop praying and begging so hard for that! Has this ever crossed your mind? This is why we’re supposed to say: “God willing” In other words, whatever YOUR will is for my life Father, let it be done, not mine, but yours. Remember Jesus prayed these very same words to God before the soldiers came to arrest Him for the crucifixon?
If God had wanted that ‘cup’ removed, so that Jesus would not have to suffer the crucifixion of the cross, it would have been done, but had that been so, how would we have the capability of being born again spiritually, if Jesus had not died for our sins? And if I remember correctly, if He had not come in the first place, (becasue He did have an appointed time to go down to hell) He would have missed His appointment in hell to retrieve the keys from Satan to free the prophets who had come and gone before Jesus birth, like Abraham, Noah, Moses, Job, etc, to name a few. They needed to be spiritually released too. Jesus didn’t just come back to free us on earth–He also came to free those in hell!
So Saints, my sole message is that you don’t let misjudgment, misguidance and misdirection direct your prayers. By misjudgment I mean don’t just decide to pray only for who you think need tyou prayers–pray for everyone, especially your enemies. By misguided prayers I mean, don’t let your payers be for just your own selfish wants and desires, and by misdirection I mean, don’t place your prayers on the wrong things, i.e., “God if you just bless us with a set of drums, then we can make a joyful noise for you”; no, no, no! If you don’t have any kind of music instrments, use waht you do have: pots, pans, ladles, spoons, etc., and give Him all the praise He deserves! And then watch how the things you need come to you! And it will all occurr because of your obedience in the first place!
So let’s all make it our motto or mantra in asking God to ‘Please help us to Redirect our Prayers!’ Let’s do it for Righteousness; for Redemption and for Return to our Creator! Amen!
