What I Like About Christianity (On Judging Others)

Prepare to be offended some more.

This may seem hypocritical of me as I believe in no god(s) but there are some parts of the faith that I was born into that I actually like. Many of the Christians I see today though don’t practice what they preach. Of course not all of them are like that, but a majority of them ruin it for the true Christians out there.

In this article, I will be using only the New Testament of my copy of the King James Holy Bible. I believe that Christians who use the Old Testament for their arguments are going against the very religious faith they claim to be a part of. For, if my memory serves correctly, in the Christian faith didn’t Jesus son of God die for our sins at the cross so that Christians can then enter the kingdom of heaven and as such the New Testament was made?

Since I am writing about the New Testament from my King James Version of the Holy Bible I would like to share a passage on judging. I believe some Christians need to relearn this passage. The passage comes from the Book of Matthew Chapter 7 Verse 1-5. Here is that scripture:

Judge not, that ye be not judged.

For with judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote of thy brother’s eye.

End Passage From The Book Of Matthew

Now I would like to share with you my own interpretation of this passage. Of course, I agree many people’s interpretations of most things are false and my own interpretation may even be false, but unlike some others at least I am admitting it.

I believe what this passage is saying is that when a person judges another person they do not see themselves for the ignorant person that they are when they cast their judgments.

I will use a simple example of one of my own experiences inside a Christian church. Inside this church I was judged the moment I walked in. The pastor proceeded to rub herself with Holy Oil each time I was in her presence just because she knew I was gay. This is a form of judging that I believe the above passage speaks out against.

I have honestly read three different versions of the Holy Bible and in each bible I read (The New Testament) I have found nothing against homosexuality. So that should leave some of you with something to think about.

To be honest, I agree with one of Mohatma Gandhi’s quotes to a point of course as I actually know some Christians who are true to their own faith and I have no faith in religion or any god. Here is the quote from Gandhi:

“Oh, I don’t reject Christ. I love Christ. It’s just that so many of you Christians are so unlike Christ.”

Now one final note that I will leave you with. I believe in no religion. I believe if you are a part of a religion to keep it to yourself. However, since someone decided to tell me I am an anti-christ and the son of the devil himself (I won’t mention who, but by the way I am a woman.) I have no problem pointing out some of the things that I truly believe some Christians have either forgotten, never read, or deliberately ignored.

Yet AGAIN, Erin, you hit the nail on the head, Jesus never wanted to see temples built in his name – if he ever existed that is – and modern Christians seem totally alienated from what their faith is supposed to be. I share your view-point. My youngest sister – like you – is a lesbian and a great friend to me – prejudice based on sexual orientation is such a crock. Really well said again.

It really is a shame about most Christians who don’t even follow their own faith. It’s too bad you will never hear the media say christian terrorist like they should say.

That stuff about the pastor rubbing herself with holy oil is just plain ignorant. Just plain ignorant with a capitol I. It’s true that So many Christians do jump on the judging bandwagon. I think what happens is they come to Christ and never had a life before. They may have been the low one on the totem pole in their own eyes. They may have not had any recognition for anything or had low-self esteem. Then, all of a sudden they come to church and use the Gospel to make themselves into some kind of God who is free to point fingers at others. But what they should point at they refuse. They won’t point out the dirt that goes on in some churches, they will ignore the child molestation, or the pastor who is constantly flirting with members, and the deacon who is stealing from the collection plate. Instead, they will point fingers out to the world and everybody out there. Meanwhile in there…in there in the church the worst scandals are going on. Hey! this is real talk.

So, I would not stop and preach the Gospel to you at this point in response to this article but others in the church will come by and condemn me for that. You have made some good good points and those points are the ones I commented on. Yes, we do sometimes forget that God says take the mote out of our own eyes before we judge others. Way too many of us Christians DO NOT follow our own faith, in this you are correct. And we all would do well to take the KJV , as you have done and refresh ourselves on what it is we say we believe in.
