What is Christianity to Me?

My thoughts on what Christianity is to me in a small paragraph.

My first thought is that it not a religion or religious dogma from organizations professing to a prescribed Christian sect for me.   Second, I prefer to use the word spiritual or mystical instead Christianity.  This is not to say that I don’t respect other religions or historical biblical writings.   My preference to use the words spiritual or mystical stems from my belief of my own understanding of “Christ”  as an inner awakening.  Also, that I have decided not to follow the words of some sect or other’s religious ideals, but through my own trials and tribulations while respecting other viewpoints.  Another reason why I use the word mystical is because, I believe that truly understanding a relationship with “ A God” or NO God”, one must look within themselves.  I find that often when people ask me if I am Christian, I feel they are looking at how I live my life in accordance to the bible, or do I met their own perceptions of what a true Christian is. On the other hand, I find individuals, who don’t ask direct questions such as, ‘Are you a Christian?  or what church do you belong to? or What religion do you follow?’ , are individuals whom are pursuing their own mystical paths of what it is to be spiritual.  I prefer to be asked if I am mystic, than a Christian, and not because I don’t believe in the trials and tribulations of Christ.  I believe that Christ is the greatest mystic in the world.  The word Christian and Christianity is terminology that comes from following the path of Jesus Christ.  But I believe, that a lot has been lost in the self-understanding of Christ because of defined and prescribed terminology and not of mystical experiences or mystical awakenings of Jesus.  Christianity has tended to rely on analytical use of the biblical messages to be final answers to being Christian/non-Christian. I believe that mystical awakenings are a lifetime of continuous paths of understanding.  Being mystical to me involves learning, gaining knowledge, loving others, and working to enhance the world around me.  In having a mystical relationship with Christ, it is that Christ accepts me as I am, and does not consider me bad for any actions that may be unacceptable according to traditional “Christian religions”.  Only that I understand my own acceptance of myself and of others.  In my continued path of understanding my mystical or spiritual self, I use all my senses, hearing, smelling, tasting, listening, touching and using my heart.  One of the most mystical teaching that Christ taught, whether one is of a Christian sect, Islam, Muslim, Buddhist, Catholic, Hindu, etc: Is to Love.

    Dear TigerLady,

I was very comforted by your similar viewpoint on faith and spirituality. I think that there is too little mysticism in most religious doctrine and I prefer to call myself a believer. I believe in God and the spirit world and that we are each here to advance the energy of our individual soul through the demanding existence of being a human being on planet earth. Also, I do not negate the story of Christ or the wisdom to be found in the Bible and other sources, I just prefer to be rooted in the process taking place within my heart to the heart of the Creator. As I am sure you understand, Christians who find their faith through ‘The Word’ consider my viewpoint on spirituality without any merit and based on nothing because I cannot ascribe myself to every single word of the Bible, however they are not able to see how deeply devoted my heart is to God. I truly thank you for your heartfelt words, they have given me solace during a difficult period where I feel faced with judgement,

    Blessings,
