Life and death is in the power of the tongue. Proverbs 18:21 This is so true. The words we speak are so powerful. When you take the time to sit down and think about the words you say as well as the words you hear…there is power being exchanged daily. Just sit down and think about the first time someone told you “I’m proud of you!” or if you have yet to hear those words come from someone…think about how you would feel if you heard those words. What about the first time you heard “I love you”? I know from personal experience I almost melted. I saved the voicemail and listened to it about 55 times in the same day. I had it in a letter and I read it over and over again and until I was ready to go to bed & even then it was under my pillow. I felt so good and so special and there was nothing that could take that feeling from me.
In the same manner positive words have a calming and pleasant effect on you…negative words can alter your mood in an adverse manner. I have become conditioned to hear profanity almost on a daily basis. So when we hear profanity we don’t turn away we somehow don’t offer those words the same attention. We toss around words like “STUPID” “DUMMY” & “IDIOT”. We don’t think twice about using them on our peers we just laugh it off and keep on going. Somehow we don’t use those words on children. What do you think would happen if you called a child any of those words? By the way…we are all someone’s child. I will leave that alone.
In the spiritual arena let’s think about the power of words. Going back to “life and death is in the power of the tongue”…we should make the choice to stop killing ourselves, situations, and or circumstances with our tongue. Today make the choice to speak life. For example in EZEKIEL 37, we are in the Valley of the Dry Bones. The Lord asks “can these dry bones live again?” and Ezekiel cowers and doesn’t really give an answer. However, the Lord tells him to SPEAK to the bones and if you know the rest of the chapter…you know what comes next. If not then keep on reading. In Romans 4:17 Paul reminds the Romans to “call those things which be not as though they were.” Again this is another example of the power that is in our words. If I could add to the verse and say it like this: “call those thing which be not as though they were…until they are!”
I know this sounds like things you have heard before…it should be different now b/c you are about to understand how and why you should see, understand, and use the power that is available to you. Here comes the power!
In EPHISIANS 1:19 Paul is talking to the church and it would sound like this in today’s language…Listen, I hope you understand the power of GOD because you have the same power HE has. Not just the power to send blessings or keep your lights on…but the very same power that raised JESUS from the dead and now he is seated in a heavenly place at the right hand of THE FATHER. That is the power that lies within you. Take a minute to meditate on that…Selah.
The same power that raised CHIRST from the dead is in you at this very moment. Think about it…in Genesis God stepped into nothing and spoke the world. GOD told Moses to speak to Pharaoh. GOD sent John the Baptist to spread the word about JESUS. It was by the words of JESUS that raised Lazarus from the dead. It was also the same power in the words of JESUS that caused the sea to stand still.
Knowing you have that kind of power…how will your dialogue change? Keep this in mind…
WHAT GOD HAS, JESUS HAS…& WHAT JESUS HAS…I HAVE!
