However, first not only read Psalm 5 but also Psalm 6. We will also be looking at some other Holy Scriptures.
Some of David’s enemies included Saul, the Philistines and other nations, and his own son, Absalom. While we all might have human enemies, it is always good to approach that realm with the truth found in Ephesians 6:12, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Some of our spiritual enemies are sin, our sinful nature, satan [1], the world system, and our very own self. In fact, I am of the opinion that self is our worst enemy. These enemies strike with testings, troubles and temptations. When the enemy strikes, we should act in at least two ways.
I. Be Decisive – 7
(Note “Your”/”Thy” occurs four times in this verse.)
A. I will come…
1. (Where) To Your house
2. (How) In the multitude of Your mercy
B. I will worship…
“In thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.”
1. (How) In Your fear
2. (How) Toward Your holy temple
II. Be Directed – 8
A. Lead me
1. (How) In Your righteousness.
2. (Why) Because of my enemies.
a. This is similar to Psalm 23:3…”He guideth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
B. Make Your way straight
1. It is already straight, but…
2. my enemies including myself will misconstrue it.
3. When we perceive His straightness, if we truly have Christ we will determine to line up with His way
2 Samuel 22:31- “As for God, his way is perfect; the word of YHWH is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.”
Notes:
1 – Yes, it should be capitalized but I prefer not to, and Triond gives me the freedom to do it that way.
