WHO DO YOU PLEASE?: Devotion for Wednesday August 8, 2012
Text: Galatians 6:8 – Those who lives only to satisfy their own sinful desires, will harvest the consequences of decay and death. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit (New Living Translations).
Whatever one sows, he will reap (Gal 6: 7). We are known by the fruit we bear (Matthew 7: 16 & 20). The life we live is like seed sowing. Some sow to the flesh, the devil and the world while some sow to the Spirit. Paul was saying in our text that flesh has nothing but corruption. Jesus taught us that where our treasure is there would our heart be (Matthew 6: 21).
The message in our text is very important for us in this present generation filled with greed and covetousness. How can someone sow to the flesh (1 Corinthians 10: 6 compare Numbers 11: 4 & 34)? It is the flesh lusts (Genesis 3: 6 & 1 John 2: 16). Are these things manifest in your life? Repent, before it will be too late. Remember what happened to people like Esau, Samson, Judas, etc.
We can sow to the spirit through self-denial (Mt 10:24, cf. 4:19), commitment to the advancement of the kingdom of God with money and materials God has granted us. What are the other ways we can sow to the Spirit? Those who want to acquire heaven and earth without investing their wealth for the well-being of other are sowing to the flesh. There are benefits in pleasing God; obeying God and not our flesh. When we please God, we are sowing seeds that we will certainly reap.
Food for Thought: Sowing in the flesh is carnal indulgence that will end in moral ruin
