I don’t understand the World’s fascination with negativity, if we were a little bit more positive, I wonder what possibilities would unfold? Let’s start with the news. I can’t stand the news. I don’t even watch the news. News is a report on an event, which has occurred somewhere. That seems like quite an important and potentially significant device? Yet most of the news is reporting on the horrible, the tragic, the murders and the evil lurking everywhere…a constant barrage of negative and uneasy reportage. What if for example, we turned on the News and had 30 minutes made up of a woman who cured her own cancer through positive thoughts, a self made millionaire who had no University or college training and the life story of those who give selfishly to better others. Broadcasting the people who have made successes of their lives. That is news. It’s fine whenever when one of our athletes wins Gold & suddenly it’s all about bravery and heart. Coming together as a country.
What I want to see is inspiration and people saying that life isn’t a fight, the World is yours to take…go out, it’s safe, you can be who you want. As I write this, live from the UK, the environment we are subjected to is dull, sarcastic and pessimistic. It does not surprise me that marriages fail, that people back stab their friends, that crimes get committed. Not when no one is there pushing us to be better.
Then there’s TV. How many drama’s are about positive characters who have wonderful lives? It’s just murder after murder, affair after affair…if the viewers aren’t killing themselves already then the characters do. Moving onto soaps, yes we get this isn’t real but isn’t there a chance that, watching a serial 3-4 times a week as an investment in entertainment, can influence your choices on how to handle real life situations when they crop up?
Negativity is a force like dominoes, when one person succumbs, they spread the fear on to their friend, who then helps to light that torch with emotional petrol & before you can say ‘Doctor, I’m having panic attacks’ the fear has burnt down a whole belief system in the brain. Not to mention our responsibility to teach the younger generation, who growing up in an all knowing World. Hmm, I think you see what I mean.
Because it’s about teaching, when you learn and your brain recognizes a situation – it becomes a thought pattern, think that thought enough times and there’s your pattern. So, with this influx of negativity shoved in our faces from a young age when thought patterns first develop – what are we doing to ourselves and to others?
Why and who the Hell decided we find disturbing issues and dark thoughts fascinating, that fear is fabulous, desperation & doubt triumph. Perhaps I’m idealistic but let’s be honest, the World isn’t that bad, there are nice people out there, there’s real love, there’s honesty, there’s fun, there’s GOOD. But if a wall of negativity is in front of all that, which it is, then I wonder about the future of the human race.
Not everyone cares about scandal or even likes to read that someone has been beaten, murdered or raped. It’s not awareness, it’s gossip, it’s taking advantage of those victims, it’s scaremongering, it’s just bullshit. What we need is an empire, a reason to smile…it’s no wonder people end up not making anything from their lives because they’re told by the World they can’t do it.
Dreams can’t come true. Oh, you’ll get rich OK but you’ll lose it. You’re too young to get married. You’ll never be thin. You have stretchmarks or cellulite – you’re less of a woman, please burn in Hell! Better to fill in the wrinkles in your face than realize that stress and fear caused them in the first place.
So, if you take anything from this…even if you have to fake it just, make it easier for others. Encourage people, don’t expect the worst and give the benefit of doubt. Optimism and inspiration never upset or hurt anyone.

You put your point across extremely well and, despite the fact that, on the whole I don’t agree with you, at certain points you almost had me changing my opinions!
I guess, being quite a negative person myself, (I prefer realist, everyone else prefers negative, probably because they focus on the negative themselves), I don’t blame the media for my pessimism, I blame the things that have happened in my life. Other people and their actions – maybe it was the media’s negative influence on them that caused them to annoy and/or hurt me, so as I write this, I’m coming round to thinking that, if you go back far enough the media might have an influence on some people. Just not me.
Anyway keep it up – would love to read more of your musings on life!
