All Work is Important

At home, mummy often does the sweeping and swabbing. Sometimes she has to clean the bath rooms as well. This dies not make her a lowly person.

Thousand years ago, the Pandavas used to rule in Hastinapur. They decided to perform a ceremony called Rajasuya Yaga. Kings from far-flung were invited. The Pandavas distributed the work of looking after their guest among themselves. Lord Krishna was given the job of washing the feet of each guest who arrived. He washed their feet with his own hands. He did not think it was below his dignity t wash the feet of men. He is worshipped as lord Krishna.  

At home, mummy often does the sweeping and swabbing. Sometimes she has to clean the bath rooms as well. This dies not make her a lowly person.

There is no piece of work too great or too petty. A person who thinks it below his dignity to do ordinary jobs will never get a chance to do great things. Those who feel that doing ordinary jobs is low and keep away from them are wrong. The important thing is to do every job earnestly and honestly. This is called dignity of labor.

There was an advertisement for a good job in a company. Many people applied for it and came to the company’s office. There they were told that for the first three months the selected candidate would have to work as an assistant to the manager. He would have to fetch and carry messages, receive visitors, provide refreshment and take orders from the senior officer. The applicants were surprised. All of them had good qualifications. They were not willing to do the work of a servant. Only one young man said, “I accept this condition and I will work’’.

For three months he worked hard. He was not afraid to tackle any job. He understood that this was the best way to learn a job. At the end of three months, he was made the manager of the company.

Ganga river at Gangotri, she is tiny stream. But as she flows through hills and plains, she becomes bigger and bigger, carrying more and more water.

Be like the river Ganga and keep flowing.

Don’t look at the nature of work, whether it is respectable or not. Make it honorable by your honesty and sincerity.
