Kalkaji Temple is one of the most popular temples of Delhi city, the capital city of India. It is believed that it was built during the period of Pandavs of Mahabharat, who belived to have ruled this region around 5000 years back.
Kalkaji temple is located in a small hill near Nehru Place bus stand. The area surrounding the temple is also named as Kalkaji. The temple is very small, however thousands of devotees throng to this temple daily. People from rural areas in and around Delhi as well as the tourists who visit the nearby Lotus Temple visit this site in huge numbers.
Kalkaji aka Kali is the mother Goddess of Hindusim religion. Although this temple is believed to have been built during the period of Mahabharat Pandavs, the current structure of the temple belongs to the 18th century AD. The structure of the temple is built on the modern day Hindu temple architectural style.
The main deity of the temple is Kalkaji Devi. The head of Goddess alone is found in the form of idol and not the entire body. The fiercing big eyes of the Goddess is the highlight of the idol. Apart from the main deity, there are hardly any idols found in this temple.
Although it is challenging to enter into the temple due to huge crowd, it is one of the places in Delhi which should not be missed out.
