Lord Rama is the most worshiped avatar of Vishnu. He is very famous for his love towards his wife and father. Lord Vishnu was born in this avatar in Treta yug.
Rama was born to Dasharatha and Kousalya. Dasharatha had three wives, Kousalya, Sumitra, and Kaikeyi. Dasharatha had four sons, Rama from Kousalya, Lakshmana and Shatrugna from Sumitra, and Bharata from Kaikeyi. Rama was the most loved son and even his step mothers loved him very much.
Rama wins Sita in a Swayamvara and marries her. When Dasharatha thinks of crowning Rama as the king, an evil woman, Mandhara poisons Kaikeyi’s mind. Kaikeyi, to whom Dasharatha vows two boons, asks her husband to send Rama to forests on exile for fourteen years and make her son the king. When Rama knows about it, to make his father’s word win, he goes to forest along with Sita and Lakshmana, who insist on going along with him. As soon as they leave, Dasharatha dies as he couldn’t see his son for fourteen more years.
When Bharata returns to kingdom, he knows about the events happened and hates his mother for that. She realizes her mistake and they go to the forest to bring Rama back. But Rama refuses to come back and says that he could not disrespect his father’s word. Bharatha takes along with him Rama’s sandals and keeps them on the throne and rules the kingdom.
In the forest, a demon woman comes and likes Lakshmana. Her name is Surpanaka. When she tries to seduce Lakshmana, he cuts her ears and nose off. She goes to her brother, Ravana. He is the king of Lanka and tells him what happened. He gets angry instantly and decides to take revenge on him. When he knows that Sita is very beautiful, he sketches a plan for the vengeance.
Sita sees a golden deer near their hut and asks Rama to get that deer for her. He goes for the deer and Sita and Lakshmana hear voice of Rama calling them in pain. Lakshmana says that it seems to be some evil magic and says that nothing could happen to Rama, Sita insists on him going and checking. He draws a line around the hut and asks her not to cross the line. He induces the power he has in that line because of which no one from outside can cross it.
Ravana comes in the form of a beggar and asks for food. When Sita comes with food, he asks her to come near him and offer the food(he knows that he couldn’t cross the line). She crosses the line hesitatingly and instantly Ravana takes his original form and takes Sita away along with the land she is standing on. The land flies in the sky as they go to Lanka. On the way a bird sees her and fights helplessly with Ravana. She takes off her jewels and ties them in a cloth and throws them down so that Rama might see them at any time. The package of jewels fall in the hands of Hanuman, who is praying near a river.
Rama and Lakshmana go in search of Sita and they meet the bird on their way and they go in the direction the bird says. On their way they meet Hanuman, who is a vanara(a vanara is half monkey and half human). Soon all the vanaras start respecting Rama after they help their king from his evil brother. Hanuman shows them the jewels and they soon realize that Ravana has taken Sita to Lanka.
They make way in the ocean with the help of stones and go to Lanka. After a very long battle, Rama defeats Ravana and kills him. He takes Sita back to forest and when the fourteen year exile complets, they come back to Ayodhya. Then he is made the king of Ayodhya.
