King Soloman, The Minister and The Angel of Death

Solomon(Hebrew) or Sulayman(Arabic) was the King of Jerusalem according the Hebrew bible and a Prophet according to the Quran. His miracle was that he could communicate with ants, control the winds and rule over the race of Jinn(supernatural beings).

According to Sufi tradition, this story happened in the royal court of King Solomon while  he was on the throne with his minsters by his side. One of his ministers seating beside the king was feeling uncomfortable when he saw a strange man staring at him from across the royal courtroom.

Curious, he asked King Solomon,” Your majesty, who is that man constantly staring at me from across the court?

“That man across the end of that court is the angel of death”, King Solomon replied.

Taken aback  by the answer, the minister was about to have a nervous breakdown. ” Can you please send me away somewhere else your majesty, perhaps China. I’m feeling very uneasy with the angel of death staring at me”, he requested the king.

So King Solomon with the power to control over the winds lifted the minister and send him  flying off into the air all the way to China. The minister felt relieved the minute he landed in China. As he turned his head to look around, that strange man he saw across the royal courtroom in Jerusalem was standing right behind him.

Perplexed, the minister asked the strange man,”Why were you staring at me and now followed me here in China?”

The angel of death replied,” Actually I was send by God to take your life in China but since you were in Jerusalem, I was wondering how to fulfill God’s command just now.”
