Laut Island is a small island on the south east of Kalimantan Island. This island is one of many islands in the Java Sea. I have been living in the island for the last five months. Living in Laut Island for the last five months really impress me. I started loving this island, since there are a lot of interesting facts I found here. The first interesting fact in this island is the people. The native people of this island mostly are Kotabaru people. However, there are various people are also here. They come from different places, like Sulawesi Island, Java Island, Sumatera Island, Maluku, and many more. This is just like melting pot, where a lot of people are living  and working in harmony. All people are charming, kind, and welcome. I feel homey at this island.

The second fact is the sights. This island is really pretty. When I came here five months ago, I fell in love with the sights of mountains here. Hills and valleys are everywhere. The misty mountains here are beautiful, just like what I heard in a famous song “Kotabaru Gunungnya Bamega” or “Misty Mountain”. If you ever heard the song, you will know that the song was inspired by this island. Beside the mountains, the beaches here are also pretty, with the sloping beach, white sands, and coconut trees, all give a feeling of peace.

The third fact is the food. This island is rich of sea food. A lot of fishermen are here. They went to the sea, catching seafood, like fish, shrimps, crabs, and many more. When I went to the market, I saw various seafood are there. Those seafood are cheap and fresh. Seafood lovers will enjoy this.

The last fact is religious atmosphere. People go to Masjid, pray and learn Islam. There are some Islamic schools here teaching how to be a good Muslim. The parents are likely sending their children to the Islamic School; for Christian people, they go to church each Sunday. They are religious and living in harmony. The religious atmosphere shows that the people here are religious. They balance their life and the next life. They realize that living is only a while.
