The Prophet

The great prophet’s life is full of sorrow, but allowed him to rise to amazing heights.

Prophet Muhammad (ص) was born on Monday, the 12th of Rab’i-ul Awwal, 570 AD in Mecca, a city in Arabia. The holy Ka’bah was filled with more than 360 idols, pilgrims and visitors from distant places worshipped these idols. The original message of Ibrahim (A) in the oneness of God was lost and it was time for a messenger to bring mankind the truth from Allah (SWT), or God.

Prophet Muhammad’s (ص) father died on a business trip to Syria six months before Muhammad (ص) was born. He was then brought up by his mother, Aminah. Aminah decided to send him away from the city to the desert, where he could grow into a healthier and stronger boy. Muhammad (ص) was given to a Bedouin woman named Halimah. Halimah’s donkey was very weak. She had many problems of her own. However, when Muhammad (ص) came to stay with her, he brought happiness to her family. He stayed with her for two years. Halimah took him back to his mother, but she begged to keep him longer. Aminah agreed and Halimah kept Muhammad (ص) for two more years. During his time with Halimah, it is said that two angels came in the form of man and cleaned his heart with Nur, or pure light. When he was finally returned to his mother, Aminah took him to visit his dead father’s grave. On the way back, Aminah died.

Abdul-Muttalib, Muhammad’s (ص) grandfather, thought it was his responsibility to look after him, so he took him in. Muhammad (ص) was seven years old when he moved in with his grandfather. Abdul-Muttalib knew that Muhammad (ص) was a unique child, so he took special care of him. When Prophet Muhammad (ص) was eight years old, his grandfather died.
