Your belief may in the Koran, mine in the Bible, somewhat else’s in the Gohanzan……
I no longer hold on to a particular Denomination. Neither do I discuss Religion on a routine basis. Why? Because we are as deeply varied on subjects such as Religion and Politics as we could be when someone describes our Parents or Sibling’s traits to US as if we aren’t the one with more authority! We can get too passionate about our rightful knowledge of people who share our blood line. It’s one of those things that has too much personal passion. The same as Politics because for certain, your view is going to clash with someone more Zealous and more Myopic than yourself!
What I see being done in the name of Religion is beyond Words. Particularly the current violence across the Muslim world because of an Anti-Islam movie. It is unbelievable. But obviously the maker of this movie wanted to push some buttons which in itself seems sinister.
No, I do not profess to any particular Denomination but my faith is Christianity. Bear in mind, the comparison to Christianity and Islam is as different as the East is from the West and yet, in our Culture, there is Religious Freedom. This is America.
The recent killings and murders resulting from an Anti-Islam movie makes me so sorry that some Muslims feel that a movie that isn’t even a popular movie at this point, a vehicle for Violence and Death. Isn’t this supposed to be the premise of the movie that one such person would deny reaction to? But I don’t profess to be even close to analysing any of that but I will say this: Both Belief Systems have committed some terrible acts in the name of their Religion. But another thing I will say is this: The Bible that I read and study never tells me to:
1.) Commit an Act of Violence because you do not believe in my Faith
2.) Use children in my Demonstrations of displeasure for any controversy
3.) Hate you because you are Jewish
4.) Hate you because you are Black
5.) Hate you because you are a Woman
6.) Hate you because you Gay
7.) Hate you because you are Muslim
And it is so true that so many Hate Groups for Centuries in America have used Christianity as a catalyst for their wild beliefs in hatred that permitted Slavery, Discrimination, Lynchings and all other types of atrocities in America. But it was not because the Bible told anyone to do any of this. It was a warped sense of Bible Text and what it meant to them that gave them the weak strength to do these horrible things.
This is still no indictment on any group because I do not believe that the recent violent out breaks are from any whole of any particular group but it seems that the Zealots, the Fanatics need a reason for their actions. This so-called movie did not open to Big Audiences anywhere. I had no idea of it until the last few days. And yet people have died from it.
I will say this in conclusion: we look at Atheists and even Agnostics as evil at worst and strange at least perhaps, but I have yet to see them on murdering rampages or create a system of continuous murder, better known as Genocide!

Religion can sometimes be overrated. I mean that religion becomes attached with violence, strange behaviors and unjust displays. God would not tell us to kill people in the name of religion.

This Film maker failed to appreciate how far some people can go in the defence of their religion. He makes me extremely angry because, look, when a certain Florida Pastor attempted to burn the Koran last year, many American marines in Afghanistan were killed by their own Afghan counterparts, men in unifrom with whom they were fighting the same cause. We are seeing more of such killings this week, targetting western troops in Afghanistan. Because the religius nobe was touched the wrong way, even men American troops shared the same trenches in the fight against the Taliban have suddenly been lumped as enemies and no longer as pacifiers!
Nakolau did a dispicable thing-he did what he knew would spur trouble, he probably knew, Americans around the world, those serving the cause of world peace would be killed but he still went ahead and spalshed his shameful film online. He is the worst enemy of America and can never be considered an American patriot
This said, I dont believe it is right to react to religious controversies the way many offended Muslims around the world have done over this one stupid film. They kill Americans, they set American embassies on fire, they kill the British, they attack the German embassies but in all these sad tales, they are simply driven by untailored emotions. Those American embassies and American diplomats abroad would never condone such a disparaging film that mocks another religion, why then should any body want to kill another person for a crime he/she did not do or abet? Could be justice turned upside down?
I am really getting upset with everything that is going on, but my citadel of anger lies squarely on the head of this Californian Film maker who sadly, has managed to draw such an attention with his film. Who knows, this guy could have sparked off a major world war already! Yes, Jsawna, your topic is very much in place!
