You’ve probably thought to yourself at least once or twice, ‘what will those crazy politicians think of next?’ Right? Of course you have. Well, the statements made by one U.S. Senate candidate, Sharron Angle, seem to raise a new question more along the lines of, ‘do those crazy politicians think anymore?’
Sharron Angle, Republican Senate candidate, made some good points in her recent rally in Nevada, however, in order to find those good points, one has to wade through quite a lot of outlandish, off topic ranting. The main topic of this ranting was the increasing number of Islamic religious groups forming in the United States. While this could pose a potential threat, comments like the one where Mrs. Angle compared the pain and hardships of the Nazi Holocaust to the September 11th attacks could easily throw even the most well read person off course. Let’s see, roughly 6,000,000 casualties and many years of suffering from the Holocaust compared to around 3,000 from the September 11th attacks. Obviously both were horrific for everyone involved but what is the purpose of this comparison? And what is its relation to the original topic of the alleged Muslim invasion? She then goes on to compare a community center that Muslim groups want to build near ground zero to an Auschwitz death camp being moved for the Jews. Obviously building anything near ground zero is a touchy subject with all Americans but saying that it should be moved because a death camp was moved due to protests just seems like overkill. Most people would have probably agreed with the main points in Mrs. Angle’s speech without all of the unruly statements and bizarre comparisons.

And if that wasn’t enough..
Angle also found time in her rally to basically call the unity of the Islamic groups throughout the U.S. a serious terrorist threat. Even if that were true, you can’t expect to be able to make a wildly accusational statement like that without repercussion. As expected, Muslims everywhere are quite offended by the Senate candidate’s remarks for many reasons (one of them being that whole Freedom of Religion thing). Mrs. Angle is clearly assuming that all Muslims dislike America and support what the terrorists have done to the United States which is obviously very far from the truth. If all Islamic religious groups are treated like radical Jihadists how can they ever be expected to be anything more? In fact, most Muslims in the United States are regular law-abiding citizens.
Thankfully..
She’s only a candidate. And her latest comments could not have done anything more than hurt her chances of being anything more than that.
Next time maybe a little less Muslim bashing and Holocaust talk and a little more facts based intelligence.
