A Traditional Healer Jailed for 10 Years in Prison for Raping an 18 Year Girl in a Shrine

Much as Ugandans claim to be practicing Christians many still go to Churches on Sundays but continue to consult witch doctors and those in society who are believed to have certain traditional powers to make impossible things happen.

In the case of this 18 year old girl, she had gone to consult this 64 year old witch doctor called Suleiman so that he could help her out with the demonic attacks she was experiencing every night.  The witch went about setting conditions for this desperate young girl’s treatment  and one of these was that she spends a night with him in the shrine so that he personally attacks the demons as they come to afflict her.

He assured her that it was the only available plan on the table to deal with her problems once and for all. Just as they slept in the shrine, indeed the demonic  attack happened on the poor girl. The witch was seen by the girl using his charms to cast spells at the so called demons. He promised her that the demons would never come back ever again, especially if she allowed him to move on to execute plan B which was to have sex with her in the shrines. He reminded her that the plan was given to him by the spirits to which she cannot say no.

The poor girl protested but had to succumb at the end of it all. The following morning, the girl was not allowed to leave the shrine, since she was still under “observation”,  but to her surprise, she slept without any demonic attacks, although again in the name of treating her, he forcefully raped her the second night. For one full week this young girl was literally detained here with threats of returning the demons at her if she ever tried to leave the shrine or refused the witch doctor’s sexual advances.

She was however, allowed to go home on the promise that she would come back for review after three days. As soon as she left the shrine, she quickly reported the matter to police and the rapist witch was arrested, charged and eventually  sentenced to 10 years in prison.

When things get very desperate, especially with Ugandan women who want children and can’t get, women who want their husbands to love them more than their co-wives, women who want jobs, it is usually not strange  for such women to go to witch doctors who promise them all these things they want, but at the end of the day, they  take advantage of their desperations and use them sexually. Some women actually go ahead to get what they want from the witches, others simply get used by these men of the underworld without ever achieving their objectives.
