A Short Lesson About God’s Deliverance

Many people when they think about God’s deliverance of the Israelites through the Red Sea, they think about the movie that was produced by Cecil B. DeMille “The Ten Commandments” with Charlton Heston portraying Moses.

In that rendition we all remember the famous scene. Moses is standing on a rock with his staff overlooking the Red Sea. At the proper moment, he raises his staff, and with both arms outstretched toward the Red Sea, suddenly the Sea begins to separate from front to back, as the waters begin to stand in a heap on both sides — allowing the children of Israel to walk straight ahead on dry ground.

That, is Hollywood’s rendition.

Here is how it actually happened, as recorded in the book of Exodus 14:21 — “Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided.”

Anyone who knows their geography from the Middle East will be able to follow this. The children of Israel lived in the land of Goshen, so in order to migrate out of Egypt they would have traveled North, then made a right turn toward the East in order to cross over the Red Sea and then North again into the wilderness.

If the Lord had sent “a strong east wind “, then it would have been an “easterly” wind — that is, a wind out of the East !!

If that were the case, then the wind would have been speeding toward Moses, not proceeding away from him.

And that would also mean that the miracle of deliverance would have been invisible until the very moment it ripped

finally through the Red Sea on it’s way TO Moses and the waiting children of Israel. They would not have seen it until the very last moment of manifestation, although they may have heard the sound approaching…..the sound of a mighty, rushing wind!

Are you waiting for God to send you a miracle ?? Where are you looking? Maybe it is hidden, but approaching at a rapid rate of speed from the opposite direction, and is ready to break out at any moment.
