Atheism: a Thought Process

Atheism is not a religion, it is not a cult. In fact, it’s just the opposite. Atheism is the ongoing struggle for rationality and sensibility. It’s just a thought process to satisfy the inner quest or answers, which religion sometimes cannot give.

“Calling Atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair color.”

This quote says a lot about so many things. Atheism is not a religion. It’s a thought. A way of thinking. No one can be discouraged from letting their brains wander and rationally gauging if they can trust their beliefs.

So many times we are blank towards the thought of God. We don’t know what to believe and more importantly why to believe. We want proof. Everything has to be clear and has to have a reasonable, practical explanation. Our brains want us to be logical. Why do we not believe in evil leprechauns? Because they supposedly don’t exist. Why do we believe in God? Do we know if he exists?

If God exists why is there so much evil in the world? Why do we constantly see good people being wronged? Why do we see horrible acts happening?

It’s hard to believe God exists when you hear about a 3-year-old being raped, sodomized and killed.

It’s hard to believe God exists when innocent people are bombed.

It’s hard to believe God exists when you see dictators, serial killers and evil people roaming around freely.

Surely God wouldn’t let this happen.

Surely God would put an end to such nonsense.

Hence, atheism begins as mere thoughts inside your head. Questions, like little bulbs pop up in your brain and you’re left defenseless by religion because how do you prove there is God? What proof do you have?

The thought grows and becomes stronger and eventually it’s engrained in your mind as permanent thought. You start thinking that way.

So it’s not really religion but a constant process of thinking, rationalizing and verifying our beliefs. And it’s an on-growing thought process that grows with each discovery and is strengthened with each query.

Atheism is a way of life. If people choose to think in a certain way, no one should object. We should all live and let live and maybe we’ll find all our answers in due course.
