Samson answered, “Get her for me!…you killed them! And I won’t rest until I get even with you.”… he saw a prostitute and went to her house to spend the night. “my hair has never been cut. If it were ever cut off, my strength would leave me…”
Judges 14:3, 15:7, 16:1, 17
Beginning in Judges 14, Samson started wearing AND1 (Arrogant, Numbskull, Disobedient One) gear. Even with all the good parental guidance he got in preparation for his destiny as Israel’s leader, Samson rejected godly advice. He possessed a VT (Volcanic Temper) that got him into PT (Philistine Trouble). He chose women who could grace magazine covers but disgraced his faith. When Samson revealed the secret of his power to Delilah, that finally got him! How we want to shout back, “HUWHAAAT” were you thinking.
But think about it. How many times have we made mistakes no different from Samson’s?
If I only listened to Mom and Dad, the accident would not have happened. (Rejected good advice).
I was dead tired and hungry, but I shouldn’t have shouted at the fastfood crew member when she gave me the wrong meal. (Bad temper)
I’ve proudly introduced my girlfriend to everybody, except (scratches head.. uhmm (eyes at the floor)…well (whispers) the guys at the church. (Wrong relationship)
Why did I share my secrets to such a gossiper? (Careless words)
Overconfident and brashly unafraid, Samson felt no shame and continued his sinful behavior. Thus, every sin became a step closer to downfall. We have felt ashamed of doing some things but we don’t feel so guilty about doing others. Cut it out. Be REAL: Reminded that Everything is Accounted by the Lord.
