Descendants of the Apostles

A question regarding any possible descendants of the Biblical apostles or historic reformers

I know a lady who can trace back in her family ancestry to a Roman soldier who was around in the time of Jesus, and who became a Christian during that time. This has often set me wondering if there are people alive today who know that one of their earliest ancestors may have been one of the apostles who had children, or one of the other children born to Mary after Jesus.

Surely something of this great significance may have remained in verbal history in a family. If my friend could have the legend of her ancient Roman ancestor kept through the generations, perhaps others know they descended from someone in this time?

I am not thinking of those who have some mystical belief that they were once Julius Caesar or Cleopatra, through reincarnation, but it is clear in the Bible that at least some of the apostles had family. Most had wives. And the scriptures talk of the brothers of Jesus, including James who was one of the great apostles.

Did all the descendants remain in the Middle East and by some misfortune of location fall into the hands of misguided Crusaders who annihilated them? Or is it possible that some headed into Europe in the Diaspora of early Christians, or to other parts? Were they then eradicated by the inquistions?

So far, I haven’t been able to find any viable evidence but maybe someone who reads this may know that their family included Pilate or Peter or Matthias or someone else from this time. For that matter, what has happened to the descendants of the church reformers such as Luther or Calvin?

Perhaps persecution has silenced history. But I hope not and that there may be someone in this world with a story to tell.

They still live in Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Israel, Greece, Turkey, Iraq, and Armenia.

Most of them belong to these churches: Greek Orthodox of Jerusalem, Greek Orthodox of Antioch, Greek Catholic of Antioch, Syrian Orthodox of Antioch, Armenian Orthodox, Armenian Catholic, etc

Decendants of the Scottish Royals today can trace their ancestor to James the Just. Would be interested in hearing from your friend’s story of the christan soldier, which soldier?

My dad is a university professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and he had conducted a decade ago some research into the ancestry of the twelve apostles of Jesus, if there is any record of genealogy.

He did find out that certain families are traditionally considered descendants of certain patriarchs (apostles). For instance, the Semaan family can trace their ancestry to Simon Peter, while the Andraos family are descendants of Andrew, Hanna family are descendants of John, so on and so forth. It was amazing to find that most of these families are still mainly in Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestinian territories, and some in Iraq. Many are living overseas (US, Europe, Australia, South America).

I’m a descendent to St. Thomas the Apostle. My name is Adam Thomas and this is the first time I’ve ever told anyone. I hope that the world someday knows about my bloodline and truely believes me because I’m telling the truth. I can’t find my family tree for now but if anyone finds it email me at Adamthomas1@netzero.com

I had asked some friends of mine (Syrians and Lebanese) that go to the Antiochian Orthodox Church here in Los Angeles about their knowledge of any living descendants of the twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ, and some of them answered that it’s believed that certain Antiochian families are direct descendants of the Apostles. Apparently, the Antiochian Orthodox refer to themselves in Arabic as “Roum”, which is supposedly derived from the Greek word “Romios”, which is Roman (the Byzantines called themselves Romans).

Antioch has had a great history of being the center of “gentile” Christianity for several centuries, and it provided a refuge for many early Jewish Christians who fled Jerusalem due to the persecution they encountered from the Jews and the Greco-Roman rulers there. I don’t think it’s surprising for certain Antiochian families to claim being descendants of the Apostles.

It is amazing how sometimes truth is lost to history, and it’s only known to a few.

My ancestry (maiden name) is from Phares or Pharez who was the twin brother of Zerah – twin sons of Judah. Phares is noted in Matthew 1:3 and several other places in the Torah (Hebrew for Instructions) as a direct ancestor of YahShua (Jesus is a complete phony name and since there is power and salvation in ONE name – according to the scriptures – could a very dark agenda of a very evil race of imposters be at play here?) Anyhow, I am also a descendant through numerous bloodlines from Zerah throughout thousands of years of lineage. If you are truly interested in what happened to the vast majority of the 12 lost tribes of Israel (the 95% that were carried off from Israel from 730 BC through 580 BC NEVER to have returned even until this current time), order the Book “Missing Links in the Assyrian Tablets” by archaeologist E. Raymond Capt from Mission to Israel Ministries. After most people discover the truth about who the Israelites are in this modern day, it really shocks them. Here’s a clue for ya – In the Jewish Encyclopedia it is admitted in their own writings that the Jews of today are not of the bloodline of the Israelites or Hebrews AT ALL. So who are THEY? The answer is extremely shocking.
