Einstein’s Famous Equation in the Light of Indian Religious Philosophy

Einstein gave us a famous equation that helped make an atom bomb. Did he also corroborate Indian religious philosophy?

Einstein gave us a famous equation: e=mc^2. It means that the energy equals mass multiplied by the square of the speed of light. This is an equation that helped make an atom bomb. This enabled us to extract energy capable of destroying whole cities with a handful of matter. We would just mathematically alter the equation and see what it leads us to:

e=mc^2

is the same as

c^2 = e/m

and

m=e/c^2

The last one is quite interesting. It means, mass is equal to energy divided by the speed of light. Lesser the energy, lesser the mass. Science does not currently believe that it is possible. This energy is contained within the atoms of matter and it is supposed to be indestructible. Science maintains that it can only be converted but can not be eliminated. But if the value of e could be reduced to zero, what would be the result?

Zero mass! In other words, Nirvana – freedom from the cycle of birth and death.

I would now like to draw the reader’s attention to the method of attaining Nirvana as stated in Indian religious discussion.

All we perceive is Maya, an illusion, and the truth, in fact, is The Void. We were once part of The Void. But where ever there was activity, an illusion was created. What we see around is the result of that agitation (energy). But now we have got into a habit. We are always on the run.

We have to stop. We have to become The Void. That is Freedom. Nirvana. How we achieve that. We have to stop our thinking. Our mind is a bundle of energy corresponding to nerve impulses, and this energy is flowing outwards through the five senses that we have (Indian philosophy talks of nine senses, indicating the nine visible holes in our body). We have to concentrate our mind, this energy, at one point so that it comes to a standstill.

From the age of the Rig Veda down to Nanak, Indian philosophers (called saints in Indian parlance) have instructed to calm the mind, cease to exist, die while living, to achieve freedom from this illusion that is torturous and otherwise unending. It is our energetic mind, aided by nine senses, that is keeping us occupied in this illusion. We have to reduce our energy to a void to be one with The Void, where there are no pleasures of the senses, and therefore, no pain at the loss of one.
