Is It Wise to Put All Trust in The Bible?

About the Bible – shows a little skepticism, and shows some reasonable thinking. points out a few broken stories.

To those who it may concern, does the bible tell the true story. Starting from the beginning, were Adam and Eve real people? According to the bible the earth is 5 thousand years old, and through out those five thousand years in the bible only people walked this earth. Tell me where did dinosaurs fit in the picture. I know that god didn’t have people on the earth at the same time as people. If he had done this, humans wouldn’t be here because we would be eaten. How do Dinosaurs fit in this 5 thousand so called years of the earth. How can the earth be 5 thousand years old when we have creatures, and plants older than that. See people like to believe the bible over science. In my opinion, its OK to believe in both. I see it this way, god planted the seed of life, and in that seed he put everything we need for life to grow on its own and prosper. To me, that seed was the big bang or the explosion that science so heavily stands by. Did you ever stop to think that science and religion conflict with one another, because they are almost one in the same. What if science picks up where god left off. I believe god let off at the big bang theory, and from there science picked up where god left off. Is it possible we have put so much trust in the bible, that we have stopped using the mind god gaveus to use? Is it possible that all god wants from us is to live as kind, and honestly as we can, and we will get into heaven? Is it possible the bible is just another novel written, and that’s all it is?

In every other religion they have a women known as Lilith or of some sort. The Muslims know her as Karina Al Karina. Lilith is known by everyone but us as Adams first wife. Lilith was said to be created from the dust as Adam was. She was considered the first independent women. Born equally to Adam. It is said that Lilith hated the fact that Adam wanted her to obey him. They fought about it so much that Lilith left Adam. Adam was so miserable , and hurt that he prayed to god to bring her back. God sent three angels to Lilith trying to persuade her to rejoin Adam. When she left Adam it was said that she had an affair with the devil. Making her what we call a succubi. When Lilith refused the offer to return to Adam, Lilith was told by the angels that 100 of her children would be killed everyday. So to get revenge she steals the children of expecting mothers. She is said to be the reason why miscarriages happen. She is also said to be the reason why young boys have wet dreams at night.

Not saying that this is true, but it is weird that other religions refer to her, but our christian religions don’t. It is also funny how there are dozens of biblical text that were removed from the bible by catholics. The book of Enoch was removed, and was said to have 5 books with important information about heaven itself. Enoch was taken from earth to heaven without seeing death. He was shown the secrets of heaven by an angel. Look him up in your bible he is there. There is also a book written by Thomas, which reveals that Jesus wasn’t a perfect child as a kid. It is written that Jesus with all his power was a mischievous kid.

Can we know the full story from a book that has been chopped up and has pieces missing from it. Our religion is the reason why there are so many religions. Everyone is confused, and aren’t satisfied. People who want to know God aren’t getting the true story, the full story, and they know it. So they try and create there own religion, and try to fulfill an emptyness they have within themselves. If religion was our way to get to know God, and if religion is the answer, why does it leave us with so many questions?

Adam and Eve husband, and wife who supposedly populated earth. If they had two sons named Cain and Abel, and Cain killed Abel, how did the population grow from a global population of three. Two men and one women. Some say they had other children, but it isn’t in the bible, and so how do we know they did. Cain was told by God to go to the land of Nod, and there he will meet a wife. If the population is three, where does this 4th women come from. If we all come from the same two people why don’t we live long like them. Life expectancy is genetic if diseases aren’t involved, so why don’t I live 930 years as Adam did.

With the US being so about God as they are, why is it that the US is the only nation in the world where we are killing one another, and ourselves. Has the bible really been the answer? Does it really tell the whole story, think about that.

I am deist, but i used to be a Christian and spent some time at a Christian college and seminary. so, I want to try to help your confusion a little bit. Your first question is about creation and dinosaurs. About 1500 years before Darwin’s theory of evolution a man named St. Augustine described the creation story in a way that is known today as the framework theory. He said that the creation story should not be taken literal. And remember, this was 1500 years before Darwin’s theory so there was no other theory about how we came to be. Augustine simply read Genesis for what it is: an analogy of the way God supposedly created the universe and everything in it. So, even as a Christian you can believe that humans never walked with dinosaurs and still believe in the inspiration of Genesis. This hopefully answers your question about Cain as well, though the bible DOES say Adam and Eve had more children and it names Seth as one of them.

The second part: Lilith is a myth. Miscarriages and wet dreams happen for biological purposes. The reason she was created was to explain things that humans at the time couldn’t. But thanks to the advancement of science, we now know the true causes of such things.

You question the the canon of the bible. That is a long story woven over hundreds of years, but I will shorten it for you. Many councils (neither catholic or protestant, but the only Christians that existed at the time other then smaller cults like gnostic) met over a series of hundreds of years. These councils were filled with bishops from all over the known world. Bishops became important to specific areas because at the time no one knew had a bible. So, these councils met to discuss topics of grave importance such as doctrines like the trinity. And in some of these councils, scripture was discussed. They discussed the authenticity of what people at the time was using as scripture. Most of it was forgeries (like the Gospel of Thomas that you mentioned), so the bishops decided they need to study and figure out which books were actually inspired by God. The came up with what is now the protestant bible, though later they added books that the Catholics call the Apocrypha. I hope this helps.

If you are really confused with your religion and want a change, you can try a more naturalistic philosophy like Deism. We accept no special revelation like prophets, scriptures, messiahs, etc. We use only our God given rationality and nature to understand what we can about this unknown God. I have written an article on why special revelation fails as a proper understanding of God and will soon write some on deism itself. Check them out if you are interested.
