Published by This story was related to me by my mother after this event had happened. She was a Christian, but certainly not an imaginative person and not one for having spiritual experiences.
At about the age of 69 years, she had gone to bed with a bad attack of angina. Then suddenly the pain ceased. She could feel her life draining away and the next thing she knew was that she was looking down at her body on the bed.
She thought, "Oh I’m dying."
Then it seemed that she was on the back of a train. She could see her family on the station, waving goodbye. She felt like she was the Queen, waving serenely from the train.
The station receded and the train went into a long tunnel. She felt entirely peaceful. The tunnel went on for a long time and she sat inside the train now.
She thought, "I don’t know where I’m going but I’m quite happy."
Soon there was light at the end of the tunnel and as the train came out into the light, she saw that light was the most beautiful light, so strong and bright that she had never seen the like before. As they came out into this brightness, she could hear music that was later indescribable. People were singing.
She saw now that there were flowers; the scenery was in vivid colour. A vista of rivers, mountains and trees spread out like a big park. She saw throngs of people, none that she recognised. She saw a city in the distance.
Then suddenly she felt the pain of her earthy body.
My father had been in the war as an orderly and he revived my mother. She woke and exclaimed, "What did you bring me back for?" She never feared death again and spent the remainder of her days wanting to go to her heavenly home.
When she did die at the age of 84, I was present and in her last few minutes she was slipping away and too weak to speak, but she looked beyond me with a look of happiness and mouthed the word, ‘angel’.
I have no doubt of where she is today.
Elijah, you weaved this story together beautifully! My mother also encountered similar experiences before passing over into the realm of spirit. A day before she passed on she told me she had been visited by a spirit who called herself “Blossom”. My mother told me that this spirit had come to take her away on several occasions while she was hospitalized and each time she refused. However, the day before her death, my mother told me that her father ( deceased ) and the spirit ( Blossom ) appeared to her and they tried to convince her to come with them and she said to me ….”The next time they come to get me I will go away with them because I know my father will take care of me.” The next day my mother passed away.
