Published by Recently I was speaking with a young Christian Scientist who claimed she believed that the physical world did not actually exist, and that it was only an illusion, and only the spiritual is truly real. I pondered this concept for a while, wondering how close to the truth it really could be. I came to the conclusion that it couldn’t be much further. There is indeed a spiritual realm, but there is with just as much certainly, a physical one.
While the spiritual and physical are separate, they are closely connected, just like how your physical body is connected with your emotional self. Physical strain can be devastating to emotional health, and mental stress can make an unhealthy body. A happy state of mind can also help the body maintain health, as can a healthy body promote mental and emotional wellness. What happens in regard to one, affects the other correspondently. Such is the way with the physical and the spiritual as well.
Many people spend a lot of time trying to get more connected with the spiritual world, without first realizing that simply by being in the physical world, one already has a connection to the spiritual. Everything you do has an impact of some sort on the spiritual world.
This would explain why so often in life people find that “what goes around comes around,” or the concept of karma. Karma is the bad thing you get for doing bad things. Say you really hate your neighbor’s dog, so you kill it and make it look like an accident. So no one will know and you won’t get in any trouble at all, right? But according to the idea of karma, you will be paid back for your action. This is because the spiritual world was affected by the physical act of killing the dog, and the disturbance must be evened out.
This idea of all things having to be evened out relates to sin and every problem the world has ever had. The world was at one time (and for a very short time at that) a perfect place, way back when there was only Adam, Eve, and God. The reason for its disruption is solely because of the first sin. Adam and Eve had been commanded not to eat the fruit of good and evil, but they did. That was the first sin. Ever. Just this one small physical act was enough to disrupt the entire spiritual realm, and in turn causing the physical realm to lose its luster. And after that sin was envy, and after that was murder. A chain reaction of sin affecting the spiritual realm began, and continues to this day. Is it any wonder that the world has so many problems as it does with the amount of sin occurring every day? All of these problems derive from people making physical actions that affect the spiritual world, and cause it all to be out of balance. Very little is the way it was supposed to be anymore.
It was supposed to be like this: In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Heavens, and earth, two separate things, but were they really meant to be so different? Indeed, heaven is a spiritual place and earth a physical one, but they were in balance. And God saw that it was good. Nothing had yet disrupted the peace and harmony between the two realms. One can only imagine the feeling of living in perfect peace.
We all know what happens next. We’re living in it. Sin takes over. However, it is a bit silly really, if you think about it, that most people continue to live in chaos when they simply don’t have to anymore. For a little over 2000 years now, mankind has had access to spiritual peace. It is not supposed to be a secret; in fact it is supposed to be the most well know information in the world, and yet so many people are ignorant to it. It was the entire reason that Jesus came from his high heavenly position to the lowly earth: to bring the Kingdom of God. Not just that we could have access to it in the afterlife, but in this one. He is the closest connection to the spiritual world that we have. Some try to connect through nature, others through meditation, but they are all missing the key. Jesus. In no other way can we have a peaceful spirituality.
Some claim that they are not “spiritual people,” but just because they don’t understand the spiritual, doesn’t mean they aren’t connected to it. In reality, everyone with a physical body is connected to the spiritual world in some way. What differs is their relationship to it. It can be a disrupted one, or a peaceful one. You decide.
