Many of you will probably have heard of burying a statue of St. Joseph in the back yard in order to sell a house. I always thought this smacked of superstition, and that an intelligent God would be unlikely to be persuaded by such a simplistic, formulaic, and potentially disrespectful an act. My mother, however, pointed out to me that whatever else I might have thought about this practice, it was in the end an act of faith. She sent me a 9 inch plastic statue of St. Joseph holding the child, Jesus. So far my wife and I have buried that statue 3 times. The first time we sold our home for full price in two weeks. The second time we sold our house for full price the day BEFORE the listing was published. The third time we sold our house for full price at the first open house.
Now I am being told equally remarkable things about the effectiveness of this little novena to St. Clare of Assisi. Being in some need, I am persuaded to try it. The Lord works in mysterious ways, and anyone could certainly do worse than to have a favored saint to champion their cause before God’s throne.
Ask for 3 favors 1 business related, 1 personal, and 1 impossible. Promise to publish or circulate this novena. Your requests will be granted after the 3rd day. This has never been known to fail. Say 9 Hail Mary’s and the following prayer for 9 days in front of a lighted white candle.
God of mercy, you inspired St. Clare with the love of poverty by the help of her prayers. May we follow Christ in poverty of spirit and come to the joyful vision of your glory in the kingdom of heaven. We ask this through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, your Son, Who lives and reigns with You and The Holy Spirit, One God forever and ever. Amen.
