It is evident in our country today that we are facing a lot of problems not just economically but also the peace and order situation in our country. Saddening but true, cursing yet it is the current facade of our perplexing situation that we have to battle. Terrorism has been an issue inevitably involving not just the Filipino people but also the tourists in our country. This is due to a mere fact that we cannot be united. It is true that a person is born unique, different in all aspects from one another but it is not justifiable enough that we would be hurting one another due to life’s complexities.

Religion could be a factor on why we cannot achieve unity. Muslims and Christians continue to combat, scuffle and battle with one another, slaughtering each other and hurting each other. In realization, why is it that we can not achieve unity in diversity? As a matter of fact, we are all Filipinos, under the flagship of one nation. We are sons and daughters of God and that must be inculcated in our hearts and in our minds. True enough that we are blinded by worldly things, material possessions and authoritarian power, the reason why we forget our responsibilities as a true blooded Filipino.

I am deeply saddened by the realities that I have seen on the pages of the newspaper and the truth about our country’s status exposed by the media on the TV and the radio, it highly served as an eye opener to the millions of Filipino people confused about the country’s never-ending tribulations. It made me reflect and ask the question, what then can I do for my country? It made me think deep, deeper than the darkest abyss of my puzzled mind. I though of the simplest but the most powerful weapon that I can carry – the power of prayer!

I can’t go to Basilan nor to the camps of the armored terrorists, that would just complicate the situation and bring me nearer to the hands of death. Rather, I believe in the power of prayer, the power of communicating with God. I truly suggest that in order to achieve peace, we must be at peace within ourselves and that could be accomplished through prayer. Let us not hope for a country that our future generation will despise and abhor but build a nation that the children of our children will adore, love and adulate. Let us hope for a brighter future to our beloved motherland … the Philippines!
