We can all sit and tell horror stories about religions… that was why, some time ago, I stopped calling them religions and stopped listening to the people who preach them , in most cases these preachers are either themselves misguided by others or have some hidden agenda, which might include greed and power as its foundation… instead I now call each a way of life and if one way of life interested me enough and I wanted to know more about it, then I would study, research and join the real practitioners to understand their way of life, completely whether in theory and or in practice..

I believe in the personal relationship with God. What the church does certainly was not in his plan. It is not the building, in the bible God admonished David and told him not to put him in a cage, meaning a building. Rather the Lord that I know and love is a loving God. Yes there is death, poverty and war all the time, because we as mankind have never learned to get along.

You have to separate yourself from everything we know, and develope a relationship with God. We don’t have to publicly go out there and praise the lord, etc. What is done in private your father see and he will bless you. You dont have to go to a church if you don’t want to, just believe, and have that relationship with God.

Excellent article – and I agree on most of your points – but I have a niggling doubt……
Society seems to be on a moral slide in general and I am sure that in some small part, this is linked to the decline in religious enrolment.
I also find the push towards atheism at the moment very disturbing – “There is no God, do what you want” bus stickers and Richard Dawkins is in the UK news today, running camps for kids to encourage disbelief.
There is organised religion – often run by individuals with human desire for money and power and there is individual spirituality – two very different things, but there is often no (or insufficient)distinction.
Please do not confuse human idiocy with God – Choose your own path but remember even Einstein was wrong about some things (he said nothing could travel faster than the speed of light – quantum entanglement has proved this to be wrong).

We humans are far from knowing and understanding even a tiny percentage of our world / universe – keep your mind open to all things!

I totally agree Red, doesn’t matter where you would go in this world they are not honest.

Greedy, useless, gutless preachers telling us how we have to give to receive. But they, themselves should answer that question of whether they are worth to human society today and if ever were.

That’s why some of them are better off than those who don’t have a life. Because it’s themselves they care about most.

I’ve always wondered why it takes $40 to look after and care for one of these kids and why it, like a cake half of it is already gone before it reaches it’s destination to help one in such poverty.
