Throughout all the ups and downs, ins and outs, hardships and easydays… What is it that sticks with you no matter what? Relationships come and go, even half the marriages now don’t turn out for the better… Ideas are what defines you. The main idea that seems to be the most pertinent to personality and most defining within, is that of religion. What do you believe the Earth came from?
The legends of sacred entities’ actions to influence that of our own, the myths buried betwixt the layers of the undiscovered, the occurences trickled from generation to generation, the stories thinned, fleshed out, and stretched… They are all similar, yet drastically different. They are definitions of who we are, they define us as people.
There are those that just be, there are others that devote their lives to dwelling buried within the pages of documents, studying the Earth’s self-inscribed monologue, or postulating their own unique theories. It is this that that stays with you forever.
Wars are fought over it, people murdered, orphaned, captured, tortured, ostracized, and shunned; even close to home. There has been history of this ever since there has been history. The majority of religions make explicit note that if you do not believe in their certain cult, you will be eternally damned. If you believe in any of the other religions that say you will be damned, you will be damned.
Many of the particular postulates suggest, while others downright state, that perhaps the other percentage of the population that does not follow their own rules suffer from a sad, worldwide case of mass hysteria. This is merely yet another small, insignificant writing. It’s memory will be lost, suffocated by the jumble of our completely time-based life.
If one minute is taken – perhaps not even for gratitude, but even for sheer awe at the magnitude of the idea of LIFE. Yet another insignificant moment passed, how the cogs and gears turn commanding us from here to there… Just take a moment and marvel…
At the beginning of this, I was attempting to host a conversation possibly debating pretty much anything about religion, but now I find myself entirely engulfed in my own poor attemps to convince myself of certain things. Would it be possible to propose the question now?
Quite simply:
Why?
Why do we find it necessary to believe that there is a power greater than that of our own? Do we have to? Are we really that insecure as a species? Are we right to, or should we do as the ape, and take life for face value and not kill each other over something nobody has any control over? Why would it say in the word of God or Allah or Confuscious or Buddha in the Bible, Qur’an, etc., to not kill, steal, etc., if they meant only when its not in my name? Thousands are killed daily because of religion and the war amonst the churches. Why?
