Paul Haggis and his letter disconnecting from Scientology is in the news at the moment, and in true form the media has rolled out several other anti-Scientology stories just to keep this one company. A few of the quotes not highlighted from the Haggis letter are: ..” I found much of what I learned (in Scientology) to be very helpful, and I still apply it in my daily life.”…and …” The great majority of Scientologists I know are good people who are genuinely interested in improving conditions on this planet and helping others.”
All aboard the hate band wagon! We no longer burn witches in Salem but attacking most other things we don’t understand seems acceptable. The media is anti-Scientology across the board with very very few exceptions, and when the opportunity rears it’s ugly head to go Scientology bashing, the media all climb on the band wagon.
I’m not making a judgment about Haggis’s personal decision, as it is just that, a personal one, but if we were to dam every organization or religion which failed to condemn proposition 8 we would have a long list to work through.

Throughout history, what has not been properly understood has been attacked; well the Church of Scientologyis one of those things. Before you join the Scientology bashers ask yourselves this:
Do you know what the word scientology means? Do you know what they actually do? What is Scientology’s stance on God? Well if you can’t answer those very basic questions, and from reliable sources of information, then I suggest remaining on the fence as far as condemning Scientology goes.
Here are some of Scientology’s activities you may not be aware of, as the media “forgets” to mention them:
Criminon:(meaning: no crime) a non-profit organization running rehabilitation and re education programs in the jails of 35 countries, it’s aim is to restore the criminals self-respect and educate him in ethical behavior, communication, reasoning and parenting skills to help integrate him back into society as a responsible citizen. http://www.criminon.org/
Narconon: (meaning: no narcotics) provides information and educational programs about the effects of drugs and alcohol they run drug rehabilitation programs, and campaign for drug prevention.
Applied Scholastics:Supplies effective educational materials, training and educational services to parents, students and teachers. They teach children how to study, as well as working with children with learning difficulties and campaigning to eliminate illiteracy. http://www.appliedscholastics.org/
The Way to Happiness: Based on a booklet of 21 common sense principles for living promoting trust, honesty and ethics. The booklet is not religious nor does it promote any group. It is distributed for free internationally with the purpose of creating a safer society. http://www.thewaytohappiness.org/?gclid=CILDyvy-3Z0CFQwgZwodXT34NA#/freeinfo/?source=gaw
The four organizations mentioned come under the umbrella organization of: Able: (meaning: the Association for Better Living and Education) http://www.able.org/ all are non-profit public organizations.
I am not promoting Scientology I am simply pointing out another side to the coin. When the media on mass comes out against something we should all take a look in the opposite direction and see what is there, let’s keep it balanced.

good article
Thanks for sharing, great article!
The image above of the promotion by Gavin Newsom, the mayor of San Fransisco, was UNAUTHORIZED by the mayors office. When they found out Scientology was forging his endorsement, they quickly sent a cease and desist letter to Scientology threatening legal action if they continued. The city of San Fransisco NEVER endorsed Scientology. This is just typical of the TOTAL FRAUD that is Scientology. Like XENU the Galactic Overlord, whom you must pay $30,000 to learn about.
Interesting article, thanks for sharing.
Anonymous, thanks for your input – that’s what I’m talking about an exchange of viewpoints, as there is always more than one! Your last sentence however is erroneous.
Good points Petalm.
I agree there must be balanced views, but do you believe all you read in the newspapers?
Any religion is purely personal.
I like the spin that ComedyCentral’s “SOUTH PARK” put on Scientology. And it is more the most part, exactly what they believe.
I could say that I believe is aliens, spaceships and ‘ancient astronauts’ but I’m not a religion either. L.Ron Hubbard was a mediocre science fiction writer and a deal of his literary works of sci-fi found a home years later in Scientology. I just have a hard time taking religion from a sci-fi writer seriously. Its just a big joke like the ‘flying spaghetti monster’ yet there are gullibles out there willing to through themselves at it as if real.
