Song of Solomon Reaction

This book and reflection is based upon how sex and the sexual relationship should be in a marriage.

Song of Solomon is a book of more than a concept of love on a men’s perspective. I have not thought of love on the side of women and how their love seems different. As a male it is just as important to understand women and their love for their significant other. When the woman in Song of Solomon says, “Do not awaken love until it is ready,” and this point should be driven home hard enough for many young couples. Couples should realize and understand that solid relationships are built upon knowledge of each other and not just the physical side.

In this book, Solomon displays an excellent example of true love. Though the couple is still young, they both display affection toward each other. I really like the example of the conflict between the young couple. This conflict is displayed at the end of chapter two and all of chapter four. The lover or the man calls upon his wife and the wife almost rejects her lover. When she does finally answer her husband, she is on a search for him once more so that they may possibly re-kindle their love for each other. When the woman is on her search, she also remembers why she loves her man and how he is so much different than any other. Her heart yearned for his and would not stop until it has found what it so desired. Her search for him was important and especially the time when the two reunite, it is another time of rejoicing. This rejoicing is also another encounter where the both have sex, but for a longer time. They both have the significance for their love by growing stronger and becoming more one, in a way that God intended.

Another thing that could possibly be related to this whole experience in Song of Songs is that of the parable of the Ten Coins. In this parable, a woman loses a coin which is probably worth a whole month’s pay. Its significance is huge to her part but it is just as important to find it again, because she only lives on meager possessions and can make ends meet. However, when she finds the coin, she rejoices and has a party among her friends that her coin was found, and now she used it. This is also the same way I could view the conflict with the married couple in the Song of Songs. It demonstrates that when there is a separation or conflict between the two, there is going to be a form of rejoicing among the couple because they were able to overcome an obstacle that faced them. “Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom.” (Song of Songs 2:15)

Overall, I was really happy with the way this was presented in class and has taught me a valuable lesson. That way, whenever I have a relationship (God willing) it will be based on how well I know my significant other before love will be awakened. This is not just a principle that can be taught to women, but men as well.
