Scenario 1:
You call a business to discuss some issues you are having with you account the operator on the other line says. “hello.. thank you for calling *business name* how may i direct your call” you ask to speak to finance. She tells you to wait one moment and puts you on hold. While you listening to elevator music for 20 Min’s she is on the other line talking to her friend/bf about events going on. Not paying attention to the fact that you are patiently waiting for someone on the line to help you. You are in a hurry you have things that need be done in a matter of an hour and while you are waiting you are wasting precious time you could be spending getting other work done. After 20 Min’s you hang up. Call back this time a little more irritated at the operator and ask before she gets her greeting done to speak to someone in finance because it is an emergency. She blows over the phone and tells you to wait. 10 Min’s pass and finally a friendly voice answers the phone asking how he can help you. “I am having some trouble with …..” after you finish you problem story. He simply tells you there’s nothing he can over the phone. If you want to resolve that issue you have to go to his office and speak to him in person. He also reminds you that the office hours are between 9 and 5 and it is not 4:30. Aggravated at the fact that you were treated unfairly in the beginning and now you have to drive 30 Min’s to a business to resolve something that was an error on their part.
Scenario 2:
You are driving down the road and you know something is not going right with your car. Its violently shaking and the gages are starting to go out of focus. You park on the side of the road with flashers going and you get out to see what is going on. As you get out you notice a homeless man sitting on the side of the road near where your car is stalled. He comes over and asks if you need help. You explain to him that you don’t know what is wrong with you car and you appreciate his help but don’t think there is much anyone can do that is not a mechanic. He asks to take a look and you say it is ok. He realizes that you battery is dead. He offers to show you were the nearest automotive shop is. You say thank you, and let the gentleman know that you have already called someone to help. He offers to wait with you. As you are waiting, he tells you about how he lost his job because of being laid-off. And how his wife got sick and he couldn’t afford to take care of her anymore so she was sent back home to live with her brother until he could find a job here to take care of them. He tells you of how he sold his car to pay for food. And how now he is living off of what little he can manage and how he has tried to get a job time and time again but they all tell him the same thing. “when we are ready to hire, we will call you, please don’t call us.” When your husband arrives to help you fix your car you tell him of the man that helped you and how he kept you company. Your husband offers some money and you tell him that you want to do more. But he whispers that the man is only going to use the money for drugs or something other then food. And tells you to get into the car so you can go home. You hesitantly get into the car leaving the homeless man back in the same spot he was before. Feeling guilty but you know your husband could be right.
after reading those scenarios it makes me wonder.. what happened to humanity. When mankind would help one another to get through each day. When did it all go so wrong. What happened to just plain “out of the kindness of our heart”. Instead of, “how much will i get for it?”What happened to God, and all the things that we are supposed to live for. I don’t understand how people can be so cruel today and greedy. No one is perfect i know this. I believe that people can be better though. I just don’t understand why they quit trying.
