The church of the flying spaghetti monster?

You may ask me, what in the world are you talking about? I am talking about a fictional religion that was dreamed up by Bobby Henderson for reasons that we will talk about later.

The church of the flying spaghetti monster is a group of people who have many beliefs. They believe basically that the world was created by a giant ball of spaghetti. Some people question if the monster was actually made of spaghetti or if it was actually linguini, Bobby says on his site “people that ask questions like this annoy me”. One of their other beliefs states that the depleting number of pirates directly correlates with the rising average of global temperature. And finally they believe that the world is not as old as it is believed to be and that all proof that scientists come up with like carbon dating etc. has been changed by the spaghetti monster in an attempt to test our faith.

So you might ask me well why was all this nonsense made up why did Bobby Henderson go to all the effort to create a church.

Kansas was in the process of deciding on whether or not to incorporate creation theories into their science classes along with the mainstream evolution theories. And Bobby well… wasn’t happy about this so he wrote a letter to the school board to try to express his views. In the letter he wrote that although he agreed that science students should “hear multiple viewpoints” of how the universe came to be, he was worried that they would be hearing only one theory of intelligent design. After all, he noted, there are many such theories, including his own fervent belief that “the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster.”

He demanded equal time in the classroom and threatened a lawsuit (according to Sarah Boxer from the New York Times). Well very obviously Bobby wasn’t serious he didn’t really believe in a giant flying spaghetti monster that created the universe Bobby is an atheist. But he got his point across he wanted to let the school board know without too much conflict that if they were going to teach Christian creation theories they were going to have to give equal time to all other religions which would not leave much time for actual teaching (says Bobby on his own web site). Uncyclopedia and Wikipedia wrote entries on the Flying Spaghetti Monster. The Web site Boingboing mounted a challenge: “We are willing to pay any individual $250,000 if they can produce empirical evidence which proves that Jesus is not the son of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.”

I think all of this says is that schools are trying to take the role of a church and they shouldn’t be…or should they.

What is an appropriate amount of religion to be taught in school? Some would say none. Others still would argue that children should be taught that religions exist but not to believe in one or another. Well I think that by putting religion into science curriculum the schools are trying to take the job of the parents who legally have the right to decide what religion their child is raised in. sure teach religion, or religious theory but name the class you are teaching as such. Schools shouldn’t teach religion and try to pass it off as science. Because religions are faith based not scientific fact.

So today we have gone over the church of the flying spaghetti monster, why it was created, and my views on religion in school. Because religion should not be taught in school as science. And I am going to put my money out there too I will give five dollars to anyone who can give me definitive proof the entirity of any religion existing.

I love your “flying spaghetti monster” religion because it well describes why so many people in this world have given up on religion. We now live with people killing one another and stealing, and evil exists wherever one lives. Knowing this how can anyone really believe in any divine entity? The many religions in the world are like a calendar of spaghetti in that they are all intertwined with the same teachings, the only difference is that each one has placed their own twist and personal preferences in that particular religion. One needs to then ask themselves, “With so many mixed up religions, is there anywhere on earth the facts that prove that there is a divine entity?

When we see evil and badness we also see love and kindness and compassion throughout the world. The question that comes to mind is, “If we all just evolved into existence, then why the difference in good and evil? Why some people very compassionate and loving while others are are so bad and horrible it leaves one with chills and in horror? Did the processes of evolution change so as to make some people bad and others good? Do Scientists have an answer to this perplexed issue?

We all exist, yet what proof is there in this large informative world on how life came into existence? Is there one definite entity responsible for our existence? If there is one entity that is responsible, what proof is there that this entity is responsible for life in this world? Life had to come into existence by something; the big question is what, how, and when?

There are many Scientist that insist that a divine entity exists, yet there are those that claim this entity does not exist. Why the difference of opinion? Those who do not believe in a divine entity attribute such marvels as man, animals, flowers, trees, and the stars and the universe to a force based on chance. Stephen Jay Gould said:” “We are here because one odd group of fishes had a peculiar fin anatomy that could transform into legs for terrestrial creatures . . . We may yearn for a ‘higher’ answer—but none exists.” Similarly, Richard E. Leakey and Roger Lewin wrote: “Perhaps the human species is just a ghastly biological blunder.” Even some scientists who praise the beauty and design in nature fail to search to see if there is a divine entity responsible. These same shun and imply that those who can not accept their scientific claims, are ignorant because they do not believe their claims. So are these Scientists claims facts evidence? Some say yes, others say no.

We have produced in this world camera’s, radio’s computer’s and we have advance in a large way the world of technology. Did all this get produced by itself? Did we take the partsof a camera, radio or computer and put it into a large barrel and just shake up all those parts and out came a camera, radio or a computer? No, someone with great intelligence had thought about these things and then designed them into the products that we see in modern society. Now think about this, if these items being far less complex then the human anatomy had to have an intelligent designer, how much more what our eyes, nose, heart and lungs and brain also need a intelligent designer? The brain itself is so complex that even Science can not explain it. Now here is another thing to think about, if Science does not have enough intelligence to explain the brain and the body of humans, would that not tell us that there has to be a much more intelligent entity then mere Scientists?
If we are to believe that we all evolved over thousands of years of evolution, and if we are to believe that there is such a thing as evolution, then why can’t the same Scientists that make these claims as facts, not be able to explain the human body and its complexity? (Something to think about wouldn’t you say?)

We live in a world of question and those who seek answers, as well as those who settle for other people’s answers. Are there though truly answers? Does and entity responsible for all life on earth and the things on earth and in the universe, really exist? I personally would like to except your challenge to prove that a divine entity does exist. This entity is divine and one entity. Now, if that is the case, why does each religions of this world claim different entities? Because they belong to the “Flying Spaghetti religion” of this world. Rather then research there questions themselves, they rely on other’s answers and follow their lead, rather then use the brain they have to settle issues such as this themselves. I could go on an on for days weeks and even months in different proofs that a divine entity exists, but my efforts would be in vain. One needs to sit down and take one question at a time to find an answer that is satisfactory to you personally. You must ask yourself, “do I believe that an entity exists that is responsible for all that we see around us, including our own life? If not, then I need to ask why I don’t believe? If so, then I need to ask yourself why you do believe? Any question you have should be answered before you can truly believe or not believe in- a divine entity. Also while you are answering any questions about the existence of an entity that caused all around us into existence, you must stay away from all religion and stick just to the facts. Later when you have answered these question to your personal satisfaction, you then can with an open and informed manner examine any teaching of any religion.

If you need help in your research and information to compare, please feel free to ask me, I would be more then happy to assist you. I have answered the question thoroughly to my personal satisfaction and I can give you many reasons why I feel the way I do, but this will not help to answer your question of “does an entity exist that is responsible for all this?” Entities in religion of this world are not what you need to know, but which entity is the real one?

    Take care
    Ilona
