The major push into Canaan was accomplished and it was time for the tribes of Israel to settle in and truly take care of their territorial possessions. After helping the other tribes it was time for the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, to return to their territories. Joshua gave them a powerful exhortation just prior to their return (Joshua 22:5).
