Lord Subramanya or Lord Muruga is considered as Vedic God. The sage Veda Vyas, compiler of Vedas, glorifies Lord Subramanya in his Skanda Purana (one of the 18 Maha Puranas). Skanda shahsti commemorate the victory of Lord subramanya over the super demon Sura Padman. People celebrate this festival in large scale and they even observe fast.
