Have You Ever Said "Yes" When You Meant "No"

Before we are two years old, one of the first words we learn is to say is "NO." Perhaps it is just that it is a simple two letter word, but I believe it is a powerful word that empowers the toddler; giving them their first sense of independence. For a parent, this can be an exasperating developmental period, as everything you try to give or do with your child is responded to with a defiant "NO."

As we get older, many of us move to the other extreme. We find ourselves saying "YES" when we really feel like saying "NO." At work, with our children, during the upcoming holidays, with our relatives, friends, with our soul mate, we feel so bad in saying no, that we end up writing emotional checks that leave us feeling spiritually bankrupt; in stress.
