Risen with Healing

God presents a number of indictments against His people in the last book of the Old Testament, Malachi. It is a very “hard hitting" book. However, it is not without promises of hope.

One can sort of wince as they read paragraph after paragraph of the short, but quite potent, book of Malachi. Sad to say, the same charges brought by God to the Jews at that time surely apply to “the Church” {1} today. Yet, after numerous indictments, God makes sure we know He distinguishes between the righteous and unrighteous. While the unrighteous certainly face doom, those who reverence Him are rewarded.

The resurrection of Christ, to a degree, is depicted in the last chapter. Basically the last chapter speaks of His earthly ministry, but we must remember His glorious ministry continues to this day, for He is risen!

Let us consider Malachi 4:2-3 where we will see three aspects of the risen Christ.

I. His Gift 2a

But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings;

This gift we are about to look into is only for those who fear God’s Name. This group is mentioned in 3:16-18 after apparently hearing the successive Spirit led rebukes by the prophet, “Then they that feared YHWH spake often one to another: and YHWH hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared YHWH, and that thought upon his name. 17 And they shall be mine, saith YHWH of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spares his own son that serves him. 18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serves God and him that serves him not.”

These people took God’s warnings to heart and it is implied they personally sought to adhere to Biblical values. They talked about them, and God heard them, recording it in His book of remembrance. Rest assured that each time His disciples of today talk positively about the things of God He most certainly hears and we will be rewarded. Remember, God is everywhere. He hears your conversation at home, school, work, and wherever you might be.

Our speaking positively about the ways of God should be our natural language in our thoughts and from our mouth. This should then translate into loving obedience to God.

Thinking of the term “risen” I must think of the resurrection of Christ. Not only was it a declaration of justification but an application of the life changing power of God available to all in Christ.

Note well that healing is connected with this resurrection and given the fact Malachi by the Holy Spirit dealt with a number of spiritual ailments, spiritual healing is certainly incorporated in the thought. Along with that would come emotional and mental healing, and, of course, physical healing.

The term “wings” is defined by Strong {2} as …

  1) wing, extremity, edge, winged, border, corner, shirt
1a) wing
1b) extremity
1b1) skirt, corner (of garment)

While the beginning of the fulfillment of this occurred in His earthly ministry (Matthew 9:20 & 14:36), it continues today for He, indeed, is risen!

II. Our Growth 2b

and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

In our resurrected Savior we can go forth both to grow and to conquer, no longer bound by the devil’s limitations.

III. His Grace 3

And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith YHWH of hosts.

Christ came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). As He dwells within us, we learn to sin less and obey God more. Eventually in glory, as recorded in Revelation 21 – 22, death will be swallowed up in victory. We will no longer be prone to temptation or physical ailments. This is all possible if we make Christ, YHWH of hosts, Captain in our life.

Is satan {3} destroying your life? Surrender to Christ, forsaking your sin, asking Him to forgive and cleanse you, and make Christ the King of your life.

Unless otherwise noted all Holy Scripture is from the 1769 Authorized Version with the spelling of some words updated for our time in addition to changing LORD to YHWH as it rightly should be when the text so indicates.
